Oregon Beer News, 09/05/2012

Oregon BeerHappy Wednesday! Here’s the first Oregon beer news post for September, even though I’m getting a late start—I’m still catching up from the weekend. I will be updating this post a few times this afternoon with news as I find it, so check in from time to time to look for any updates. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated.

Belmont Station (Portland) tonight from 5 to 8pm has a tasting featuring Tieton Cider Works—not exactly a beer event but worth noting for sure! “Tieton Cider Works, of Yakima Valley, Washington, is a family business that grows and harvests their own fruit to produce incredible ciders. They will be here from 5-8PM with samples of Blossom Nectar, Apricot, Cherry, & Yakima Valley Dry-Hopped Cider. We will pour a special keg of Makers Reserve Cider on tap in the biercafe. YES! A Makers Mark Barrel-Aged Cider! Come kick off apple season with us.”

Bull Ridge Brewpub (Baker City) is getting set to celebrate their one year anniversary soon, where they’ve been retooling their menu and yes, brewing beer (still on the small equipment). From Facebook: “ONE YEAR Anniversary and a basement full of fermenting beer – we have come a LONG ways!! Anxiously awaiting our equipment due end of September or October! Natural Structures is making our fermenters and I hear they are beautiful!!! Planning a One Year Celebration very soon!! Come by and check us out – we love to see everyone!!” That’s an event I’ll keep an eye on, because I’d like to make it back over to Baker City in the near future…

The BeerMongers (Portland) is celebrating their third anniversary with an anniversary party at their location tonight from 5 to 11pm: “On Wednesday September 5th (5-11pm) we will have an Anniversary party at The BeerMongers.  We are selling a limited number of VIP tickets for $20 (includes 2 special beers, a savory pie from Pacific Pie Co. and a rare beer raffle ticket).  We will have some great beers on tap from our favorite Portland brewers including Breakside, Upright, Burnside, The Commons, Heater Allen and more.  There will be snacks and the Timbers on the Big Screen.” Entry is free and after the Timbers game there will be free Belgian waffles.

The Green Dragon (Portland) has a Green Dragon Brew Crew release tonight starting at 5pm that sounds appropriately beer-geeky: Strong Burton Ale. “Long before the rise of Pale Ale and IPA, the city of Burton was known for dark, hoppy, strong ales. Burton Ale was a mainstay of English pubs until the 1950’s when they disappeared because of changing tastes. But the ancestors of Burton Ales live on as Barley Wines, Old Ales and Winter Warmers.  Green Dragon Strong Burton is a composite recipe from several 1930’s recipes. It is brewed from Maris Otter and Golden Promise pale malts, dark crystal malt and dark invert sugar to produce a deep copper beer with rich malt flavors and hints of dark dried fruits. The use of 100% East Kent Goldings balances the malt with a bracing bitterness while adding some floral notes. It’s a tribute to the strong ales that made Burton famous.”

Corvallis Beer Week starts on Monday the 10th! Now in its second year, it’s a celebration of the great and growing beer culture in Corvallis and runs through the 16th. They’ve got a nice event list online already and it looks like next week the place to be is Corvallis!
