2010 is the last year of Deschutes Cinder Cone Red
The latest media tip sheet for Deschutes Brewery was emailed to me today and in it is this eye-opening information (emphasis mine):
January 2010: Hop Henge Experimental IPA and Cinder Cone Red. Note: this will be the final batch of Cinder Cone Red and will only be available in the Pacific NW.
February: Jubel 2010 and Red Chair NW Pale Ale. Red Chair NWPA will be replacing Cinder Cone Red & Buzzsaw Brown as the seasonal 6 and 12-pack offering.
On the one hand, I’m a little dismayed because Cinder Cone Red is one favorite of mine and always has a strong seasonal showing (or so I assume); on the other hand, as Jeff has mentioned before, beers (and breweries) evolve over time, so while it’s bittersweet, it’s understandable.
I’m glad to see they’re replacing it with (a variant of?) this year’s successful Red Chair IPA; that was a worthy beer that I would have liked to have seen on a more regular basis—which, it seems, I will.
Something else interesting that’s mentioned but not explicit in that media bit? Red Chair NWPA is also replacing Buzzsaw Brown. I’m not sure if that means Buzzsaw won’t be brewed anymore, or if it will simply be brewed at another time of the year.
(The tip sheet later casually mentions that “Jubel 2010 has been in wood for almost a year”.)
