Advent Beer Calendar 2021: Day 10: Einbecker Brauhaus Weihnachtsbier
Happy National Lager Day! I don’t know how it came about, but December 10 is a day to observe the world’s most popular category of beer, so I like to select a seasonally appropriate lager for the Beer Advent Calendar. Germany is my go-to country when thinking of lagers, and this year is no exception, so today’s Advent beer pick is Einbecker Weihnachtsbier from Einbecker Brauhaus in Einbeck.
This winter lager is a rich amber tipple with 5.3% alcohol by volume; the brewery’s description (the main German one translated by Google, not the company’s English site version) says:
Even the warm amber color is evidence of rich malt aromas. The caramel, fig and sherry notes combine harmoniously first in the nose and then in the taste. Its rich bouquet makes the Einbecker Christmas beer a festive pleasure.
RECOMMENDATION: The Einbecker Christmas beer is a festive treat that is recommended for hearty dishes with goose, game, cabbage, potatoes and leeks as well as for sweet desserts.
Einbecker is one of the oldest still-operating breweries in the world, founded in the 14th century, and is credited as originating the bock style of beer—representing in its Ur-Bock brews. The brewery of course also offers other lager styles in its lineup, but its with its Christmas beer that the brewery says Fröhliche Weihnachten!
