Today’s Advent beer pick takes us on a visit to The Lost Abbey of San Marcos, California, a subsidiary of Port Brewing specializing in Belgian-style and premium beers (as you may have guessed from the name). The Lost Abbey offers a number of seasonal specialties and for today we’re focusing on Gnoel de Abbey.

Gnoel is a holiday brown ale / winter warmer brewed to 8.5% alcohol by volume. The description reads:

The Lost Abbey’s newest seasonal, Gnoel de Abbey is a winter warmer brewed to be lighter in body while maintaining nuanced notes of oak.

Beginning with aromas of freshly brewed espresso, Gnoel has hints of cocoa, vanilla and holiday spice, finishing with a crisp coffee bitterness.

It’s partially aged in bourbon barrels for added layers of complexity, just the thing for that warming touch on chilly winter nights.
