McMenamins 11th Annual High Gravity Brewfest takes place this Saturday, Jan. 13
The annual High Gravity Brewfest returns this Saturday, January 13, to McMenamins Old St. Francis School in Bend. This year marks the eleventh edition of this event, featuring bold, strong beers and ciders that are perfect for the winter weather. It takes place from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., in the Theater and inner courtyard of the property.
Gather around our blazing firepits or step inside the Theater to taste all the big, bold ales at our 11th annual fest! Enjoy 24 unique ales (plus a couple tasty ciders) from McMenamins and local guest breweries, including five collaboration beers. And we’ll be playing NFL games on the big screen, because nothing goes better with beer than football…except maybe Cajun tots, of course.
There’s a beer list posted on the event page though it’s currently lacking details on each beer (alcohol percentage, longer descriptions, for instance); there’s a nice range of styles and specialties that will be pouring, 24 in all listed. Some of the highlights that caught my eye include Bourbon Barrel Aged Suge Knite from Boneyard Beer, Yam-Brûlée from Deschutes Brewery, High Desert Rain Storm from Lazy Z Ranch Wines (a mead!), and Black Barleywine from Obelisk Beer (Astoria’s newest brewery).
Cost is $28 if you purchase in advance here, or $30 at the door. This includes 10 tokens for tasters and the pint glass, and you’ll be able to purchase more tokens as needed. Food is also available for purchase, of course.
The High Gravity Brewfest is always a good, fun event, and you’ll often find brewers behind the beers pouring their creations early in the day. With the current weather forecast you’ll want to bundle up if you’re planning on spending any time in the courtyard. And be sure to taste the Old St. Francis collaboration beers! These were brewed specially for the fest, so it’s your chance to try them all in one place.
