Advent Beer Calendar 2012: Day 21: St. Peter’s Christmas Ale
Today is the big day: the winter solstice and the end of the Mayan Long Count calendar heralding the so-called Mayan Apocalypse! I went back and forth on selecting a beer for today: something solstice-y like Anderson Valley’s Winter Solstice or apocalyptic like Elysian Brewing’s Doom Golden Treacle Pale, brewed as part of a series specifically for the whole Mayan apocalypse thing.
In the end though I decided to keep it Christmas-y and thus today’s pick comes from England: St. Peter’s Christmas Ale, a new-this-year offering I believe from the brewery in Suffolk, 7% abv and described as, “A smooth, fruity, full-bodied ale, the perfect companion for Christmas savouries, sweets and snacks.”
I don’t know if this ale contains fruits or spices, though their about page talking about their tradition stylings of beers notes seasonably available ingredients: “while at Christmas-time dried fruits, spices and orange peel would be added to create a special Christmas Ale.” Regardless, you will definitely be happy to see the distinctive St. Peter’s bottle under your tree!
