Advent Beer Calendar 2012: Day 9: Breckenridge Christmas Ale
We’re now just over one-third of the way through the Beer Advent Calendar, which also means Christmas Day is a mere 16 days away! And according to Wikipedia, today’s Christmas-themed day is “Anna’s Day, [which] marks the day to start the preparation process of the lutefisk to be consumed on Christmas Eve, as well as a Swedish name day, celebrating all people named Anna” in Sweden and Finland.
Today’s pick (which doesn’t have anything to do with lutefisk) comes from Colorado’s third-oldest craft brewery, Breckenridge Brewery: their Christmas Ale. It’s an appropriately-strengthed Winter Warmer (or American-style strong ale if you prefer) suitable for the cold Colorado winters.
The chill of a Colorado high-country winter calls for a beer with extra flavor and strength. Here it is. At over 7% alcohol, with a sturdy texture and rich flavors of caramel and chocolate, our holiday seasonal is the fermented equivalent of a good fire.
Breckenridge is a ski town, and what could be better than a day of hitting the slopes and coming home (or to the lodge) to warm up by the fire with a bottle of Breckenridge Christmas Ale?
