Advent Beer Calendar 2013: Day 18: Deschutes Jubelale
For today’s Advent beer we highlight one of my personal favorites: Deschutes Brewery‘s Jubelele. Jubelale is a malty English-style Winter Warmer that was first brewed the year the brewery was founded, in 1988, and was also the first beer ever bottled by Deschutes (that same year).
The beer itself is a classic example of the style, 6.7% abv, for which the brewery says:
A dark, malty celebration ale with layered flavors and beautifully balanced hopping. Jubelale pours deep garnet in color, medium bodied, with notes of chicory, earth, spice and fruit. To beer lovers, it’s like Yule fire and family.
And no discussion of Jubelale would be complete without mentioning the labels, which since 1995 have been designed by a different local (to Oregon) artist each year. A great overview of the history behind the artwork, and the labels themselves, can be found here (PDF). Wouldn’t these labels look great as gift wrapping paper?
