Advent Beer Calendar 2013: Day 5: Lb. No. 28 Christmas Ale
Today we swoop down into the American Midwest, to Hays, Kansas to visit Gella’s Diner and Lb. Brewing Company, who not only earned two medals for their beers at this year’s Great American Beer Festival (gold for their No. 09 American Hefeweizen and silver for their No. 02 American Wheat) but also won the GABF Small Brewpub and Brewer of the Year.
Being a brewpub, they do not bottle their beers, which means an in-person visit for a pint of today’s Advent beer pick, their No. 28 Christmas Ale.
Discover the taste of chestnuts roasting on an open fire in this nut brown ale. Light brown in color, this ale is brewed with lots of fermented honey (60 lbs. to be exact) and lightly spiced with cinnamon. The Christmas Ale is a well-balanced beer that is neither sweet nor bitter and finishes with unique spices. So, have yourself some merry Christmas Ale!
This beer comes in at a warming 7% alcohol by volume, perfect for those chilly Midwestern nights and—as luck (or good planning!) would have it—it goes on tap today at the brewpub.
