Advent Beer Calendar 2013: Day 8: New Glarus Snowshoe Ale
For today’s Advent beer picked we head towards the upper Midwest to highlight a beer and brewery that hasn’t yet made it onto the Beer Advent Calendar: New Glarus Brewing out of New Glarus, Wisconsin. New Glarus was founded in 1993 and is definitely one of the “must-visit” craft breweries that should be on any beer geek’s list—not only because of their fantastic beers like their Wisconsin Belgian Red but also because those beers are only distributed in Wisconsin.
Today’s beer pick from New Glarus reflects the season: winter in Wisconsin is serious business, which is highlighted in the description of Snowshoe Ale, one of their winter specialties:
Settle in with Wisconsin’s Snowshoe Ale. This beer is brewed with a blend of American and German malts. We also infuse generous amounts of hops from Slovenia and the Great Pacific Northwest to add a special note of warmth for your winter evening’s enjoyment.
Expect this beer to be a beautiful copper-red, with a fruity ale body and a spiced hop finish. Then sit back and rejoice in the season because it’s these Wisconsin winters that keep the whiners out.
Snowshoe Ale is an Irish Amber Ale brewed to 5.7% alcohol by volume and I can imagine it being a tasty beer to follow up snowshoeing out into the woods to find your perfect Christmas tree.
