Advent Beer Calendar 2014: Day 24: Christmas Eve at a New York City Hotel Room
Happy Christmas Eve! Today is the last day of the Beer Advent Calendar, and to commemorate I picked a beer with a mouthful of a name, brewed by the “evil twin” brother of Mikkeller—no kidding, read this article for the backstory. They are both from Denmark, they are twins, they both contract (or gypsy) brew beers that beer geeks love, but they don’t like each other! So while they may not be the best story for a Christmas holiday, I couldn’t resist selecting Evil Twin Brewing’s Christmas Eve at a New York City Hotel Room for the day.
I don’t know the story behind the name, and after a cursory search, I’m not sure anyone does. Nor do I know the story behind the beer itself, other than Jeppe (Mikkel’s brother) didn’t want a traditional Winter Warmer—opting instead for a 10% Imperial Stout.
To be honest, the name sounds kind of melancholic, like a traveler who’s far away from home at Christmas and has to spend it alone in his hotel. I would much rather you were spending Christmas with your friends and family and sharing this bottle with them!
