Advent Beer Calendar 2016: Day 14: Batemans Rosey Nosey
“Chestnuts roasting on an open fire… Jack frost nipping at your nose…” Today is Roast Chestnuts Day and that opening lyric to “The Christmas Song” is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of chestnuts. Of course it’s Jack Frost that comes next, the chill winter air nipping at your nose, and so today’s Advent pick comes from England: Batemans Brewery‘s Rosey Nosey.
This Christmas ale was first brewed in 1998 and is available in both cask and bottled versions. The beer is 4.9% alcohol by volume and features a rosey-nosed Santa Claus on the label. Batemans says:
Dark amber and full of rich, fruity sultana and raisin flavours fused with crunchy pale, crystal and chocolate malts. The English Golding and Challenger hops produce a succulently spicy aroma.
This beer is particularly apropos on this day here in Oregon as we are under a winter storm warning, with a foot or more of snow predicted in Central Oregon. Rosey nosey indeed!
