Advent Beer Calendar 2016: Day 3: Hardywood Christmas Morning
For this third of December we’re traveling to the Commonwealth of Virginia, Richmond to be exact, to visit the five year old Hardywood Park Craft Brewery. The upcoming year sees expansion on the horizon for the brewery, but in the meantime we will enjoy their Hardywood Christmas Morning for today’s Advent beer pick, and imperial milk stout brewed with coffee and spices.
Gingerbread is their inspiration and this is a hefty 9.2% abv ale that would work equally well on Christmas morning or the night before when you are setting out the milk and cookies.
Hardywood Christmas Morning lends a cheerfully heightened decadence to our Gingerbread Stout through deep conditioning on locally roasted Mexican Chiapas coffee beans from Black Hand Coffee Co. Hints of sweet honey and oven baked gingerbread greet the comforting nuances of freshly brewed morning coffee in this imperial milk stout. Skip the leftover cookies and milk and awaken your senses with this delightful holiday tradition.
I love the label on this beer as well, it’s elegant and detailed without being overly complicated. It reminds me of classic line art or woodcut illustrations of the season, and the beer you’ll find inside the bottle will match that elegant, classic expectation with a ginger spiced twist.
