Advent Beer Calendar 2017: Day 18: Bamberg Weihnachts
Today we travel south of the equator to discover the Bambeg Bier Brewery in Brazil, an award-winning German-inspired brewery established on this day in 2005. Their Christmas beer, Bamberg Weihnachts, is a loosely styled rye holiday beer, about which the brewery says:
Created to celebrate Christmas, this beer does not follow styles and was designed to match the Brazilian supper and climate at this time of year. The recipe takes 30% of rye malt in the recipe, which gives a certain rusticity; the IBU of 30 helps fight fat and, like the fruity taste of the Hallertauer region, makes the beer more refreshing. A light dash of smoked malt and Kölsch’s yeast give the finishing touch. Despite the rye malt, it is a filtered drink, sold only in 600ml bottles. It harmonizes with the Christmas dinner, tender, roasted milkshake, barbecue, reunited family and fraternization. [via Google Translate]
This sounds like an interesting variation to the typical winter warmer. Raise a glass of Weihnachts and toast to the coming of Papai Noel on Christmas!
