Advent Beer Calendar 2017: Day 2: Rogue Santa’s Private Reserve

Rogue Ales Santa's Private Reserve 2017

On this second day of December I’ve selected an old favorite with a new twist for today’s Advent beer pick: Rogue Ales Santa’s Private Reserve. This holiday seasonal used to be a hoppy red ale, but this year Rogue has reinvented it as a Belgian strong ale, brewed with cherries and raspberries.

Tired of the same milk and cookies every single year, Santa Claus dialed up his bearded brother, Rogue Brewmaster John Maier, and asked for something new. John invited Santa and his elves to Rogue’s brewery, where they crafted a brand new beer, a Belgian Strong Ale made with cherries, raspberries, Belgian Candi sugar, and Imperial Gnome yeast.

The beer is 7.8% alcohol by volume and 23 IBUs, and I believe Rogue is planning on changing the recipe up each year, which will make for a nice Christmas treat. And since Rogue claims, “Our beer is endorsed by the real Santa,” I imagine what they brew will be whatever jolly old St. Nick is in the mood for.
