Advent Beer Calendar 2017: Day 9: Block 15 Hoppy Holidays
December 9 is Christmas Card Day, commemorating Sir Henry Cole of England who created the first commercial Christmas card in 1843. Yes, honestly it’s a bit of an arbitrary holiday but didn’t all holidays initially start out somewhat arbitrarily? To celebrate the day and the messages that typically appear on Christmas cards, today’s Advent beer selection is Block 15 Brewery‘s Hoppy Holidays.
Block 15 is based in Oregon and brews a wide range of beers. Hoppy Holidays is but one of their Christmastime ales, and is a 9% ABV double IPA brewed with citrus elements and spruce tips. The brewery says:
Hoppy Holidays is brewed with a sleigh-full of resinous and citrus-forward hops, sweet orange zest, and locally foraged spruce tips. Its seasonal flavors of pine and citrus blend with a warming malt backbone to evoke holidays past, like opening a gift box of citrus under a holiday tree. Hoppy Holidays from Block 15!
Hoppy Holidays is part of Block 15’s monthly hop-forward can series so cans of this big ale are on the shelves now. Pick up a few cans and celebrate the season and pair it with trimming the Christmas tree and sending out your Christmas cards.
