Advent Beer Calendar 2018: Day 13: Midnight Sun CoHoHo Imperial IPA
For this 13th of December we’re traveling north for our Advent beer pick, and land in Anchorage, Alaska, home of Midnight Sun Brewing Company. Midnight Sun brews CoHoHo Imperial IPA, the label of which features a coho salmon wearing a Santa hat, with brown sugar, honey, and juniper berries.
Designed as a winter version of yearround favorite Sockeye Red IPA, CoHoHo Imperial IPA is an incredible American Double India Pale Ale, which offers much bigger, bolder and rounder flavors. An incredibly generous malt bill creates a plump base to which three types of hops are added, providing aroma to entice the senses and bitterness to balance the palate. Bonus ingredients—like brown sugar, honey and juniper berries—boost complexity and holiday spirit.
As the days grow shorter, we welcome the return of CoHoHo Imperial IPA to our gatherings…and glasses, celebrating life that is abundant in all that matters.
This seems like just the beer to drink in the northern climes where the winter nights are long and cold. I also like the idea of a juniper-infused double IPA to bring a holiday twist to your beer shelf; I suspect this is a beer that will pair nicely with beef and/or ham at your Christmas feast.
