Today’s Advent beer pick comes from the Mönchshof Brewery in Germany, part of the Kulmbacher Brewery family, a specialty winter lager brewed for the Christmas season: Mönchshof Weihnachtsbier.

“Weihnacht” is German for Christmas, fittingly a time for festive lagers, and this one is brewed to be a bit darker, somewhat in the Märzen style. It’s 5.6% alcohol by volume and the brewery says:

Our popular Mönchshof Weihnachtsbier represents the highlight of the advent period. Only available from October through to December, the true beer lover can’t wait to get his hands on this festive delight.

Somewhat dark in colour with an understated hoppiness, the full-bodied Mönchshof Weihnachtsbier with its particularly fine malt aroma is not only a “festive beer” as its name suggests, but also a special present from Mönchshof!

No spices or additions—it’s Reinheitsgebot compliant—just a solid, malty lager to suit the colder weather and holiday festivities.
