Advent Beer Calendar 2019: Day 10: Warsteiner Weihnacht
It’s National Lager Day! December 10 is the annual observance of this beery holiday and it’s a perfect time of year to pick a yuletime lager. As befitting a day dedicated to lagers, today’s Advent beer comes from Germany, from the Warsteiner Brewery: its Christmas beer Weihnacht. (Note, the Anglicized version of the name is merely “Winter.”)
To be presented is beautiful, pour is more beautiful. Especially if it’s our festive Christmas beer. With amber gloss and hearty malt aromas, one more reason to look forward to the holidays. [Translated from the German website]
A rich copper-red amber winter seasonal beer with 5.6 alc./vol. delivering a full-bodied, satisfying malty taste sensation masterfully balanced with a subtle hoppy bitterness- a perfect fit for celebrating the Winter season. [From the English site]
Warsteiner is Germany’s largest privately owned brewery, and dates to 1753. All of its beers are brewed in accordance with the Reinheitsgebot, and in Germany the brewery offers a lineup of eight products which includes several non-alcoholic offerings. The USA site lists three main beers (two brewed for the American market I would guess).
For Christmas it’s definitely the Weihnacht, amber-colored and malty and stronger than its year-round beers as befitting the season. Prost!
