Advent Beer Calendar 2021: Day 8: Flötzinger Bräu Weihnachts-Bock
For today’s Advent beer we travel to Germany, to the city of Rosenheim and the brewery Flötzinger Bräu, which offers up not one, but two Christmas lagers, a standard-strength lager and a stronger bock. While I’d be happy to select both for today—drink them both if you can!—the highlight for the day is Weihnachts-Bock.
This Christmas Bock is brewed in the style of a helles or maibock, to 7% alcohol by volume with 19 IBUs. Flötzinger’s description (translated by Google) says:
Malty and honey-colored, elegantly drinkable for a bock beer. The right mood for the Advent season.
Consider pairing this with sugar cookies, bacon-wrapped dates, roast pork, or other holiday goodies you’ll be serving up for the season. And don’t overlook it as a base for mulled beer—something we don’t see enough of these days!
Flötzinger is the oldest brewery in Rosenheim, dating to 1543, and according to the website, it’s the only remaining private (and family) brewery in the region as well. It brews in accordance with the Reinheitsgebot and offers a wide lineup of beers, spanning a range of lagers, wheat beers, non-alcoholic brews, radlers, and even a line of soft drinks.
