Advent Beer Calendar 2022: Day 4: Southern Tier Frosted Sugar Cookie Imperial Ale
December 4 is National Cookie Day, one of those for-fun-but-unofficial holidays that happens to land in the Christmas season, when many of us are baking cookies for the holidays. To commemorate the day, I’ve picked a suitably themed beer for the today’s Advent reveal: Southern Tier Brewing Frosted Sugar Cookie Imperial Ale.
New York’s Southern Tier is no stranger to sweetened, specially-flavored beers often of the “pastry” variety, and Frosted Sugar Cookie falls into that template. This imperial ale starts out with pale malt and oats for a soft creamy texture, and lactose and natural vanilla flavor are added to boost mouthfeel and add sweetness and flavor reminiscent of sugar cookies. The description says:
Gather ‘round the fire with all of your closest friends and cozy up to this delicious spectacle of pure sweetness that is sure to sprinkle your wintry days with joy. You won’t believe it’s beer and not a tin full of iced confections. Our Frosted Sugar Cookie Ale is full of soft and airy vanilla and cake notes, iced to perfection. Happy Holidays from ours to yours.
The beer is 8.6% ABV with 10 IBUs, and be prepared for a sweet dessert beer that does indeed smell and taste like sugar cookies. Seems like the perfect accompaniment to holiday baking, particularly when it comes time to decorate the cookies!
