Advent Beer Calendar 2023: Day 11: Taverne de l’Abbaye d’Aulne Bière de Noël
For today’s Advent beer pick, we’re visiting Belgium and the Brasserie Taverne de l’Abbaye d’Aulne, located at the former Aulne Abbey Cistercian monastery. The brewery produces several lines of beers, and under its ADA (Abbaye d’Aulne) brand, it offers up an annual Bière de Noël, also labeled as its Christmas Beer or Winter Beer.
The website doesn’t offer much detail on the beer itself, but it’s 9% alcohol by volume and brewed with spices; the bottle’s label indicates “Triple” but I believe this refers to the strength, not a style. You can expect a Belgian strong dark ale, malty with notes of caramel and spice.
This is an ale that would pair well with gingerbread, fruitcake, and other rich and spiced confections, as well as being a good foil for your holiday meals in general. Cheers!
