Advent Beer Calendar 2023: Day 13: Great Basin Brewing Red Nose Holiday Wassail
For today’s Advent beer pick, we’re visiting Great Basin Brewing in Nevada, a craft brewery that got its start 30 years ago in Sparks and today has four locations across the northwestern part of the state. Each year Great Basin brews up its special Red Nose Holiday Wassail, a winter warmer brewed with locally harvested apples and pears, with honey, orange peel, maple, and a medley of spices added.
It sounds about as close to actual wassail for a craft beer that I’ve heard of; wassail is traditionally made from mulled cider, or wine with apples, and spices, and “lamb’s wool” is a variant brewed from ale with baked apple, sugar, and spices—Red Nose fits that bill!
It’s just the beer to have on hand for any holiday wassailing or caroling you may be doing this year. And don’t forget to share!
