American Pale Ale
The name might be reminiscent of Budweiser’s American Ale, but American Pale Ale is actually an offering from Golden Valley Brewery here in Oregon that predates the Bud offering by quite a margin.
Golden Valley’s own description of this 5% beer is fairly sparse:
Golden Valley’s A.P.A. is our finely made northwest style pale ale with a light malt profile and a citrus hop aroma.
Appearance: Hazy-clear golden copper colored ale; thin, minimal head.
Smell: Grassy hops over a sweet malt base. Could be a hint of Belgian candy sugar as well.
Taste: Light and bready with a crisp wheat edge to it, and a floral and slightly citrus hop bite.
Mouthfeel: Light-bodied but still has a nice presence on the tongue—crisp and lightly bitter enough to be refreshing.
Overall: Light and flavorful, very pleasant to drink—a great and tasty session beer.
On BeerAdvocate, all of 6 reviews give it a grade of B. On RateBeer, it scores 3.12 out of 5, and is in their 49th percentile.
