Beers From the Dead 2 revives to celebrate classic styles this Saturday, October 28
This Saturday, October 28, Beers From the Dead 2 takes place at On Tap in Bend, a Halloween-themed revival of “classic Oregon microbrews” that are, thematically, back from the dead for this special event (zombie beers, if you will). The event features a lineup of 11 beers and a cider, and instead of tickets all will be available à la carte in pints and half-pints.
Here’s the press release:
Beerfest Sponsored by Visit Bend Promotes Bend Ale Trail Month
Oregon didn’t always support 300 craft breweries. India Pale Ale wasn’t always the dominant craft beer style. Pioneering microbreweries used to offer adventurous beer lovers more rudimentary styles such as golden ales, red ales, brown ales, black ales, and beers named after other colors. Micobrewers were more inspired by English styles such as Extra Special Bitter (ESB) than New England IPA. So to kick off Halloween weekend and in advance of Bend Ale Trail Month which is all November long, attendees are invited to take a sip back in time to taste—again or for the first time—what small batch beers tasted like back in the twentieth century. The festival takes place at On Tap (1424 NE Cushing Dr., Bend) on Sat, Oct. 28, from noon to 6 p.m. Tickets are not required as all beers will be available a la carte in full or half pints. On Tap Beer Garden & Food Trucks will host a costume contest (for grown-ups, kids, and dogs) and Bend Ale Trail passports and event glassware will be free for the first 200 customers.
Halloween is many people’s favorite holiday. As a fermented twist, instead of Bend being populated by zombies, it is the beers themselves that are the un-dead. From beloved Oregon brands to once-popular styles, guests will be able to revisit beers back from the dead. The lineup, which is subject to change, includes the following Oregon breweries and beers:
- Deschutes Brewery’s debut release born in 1986, Cascade Golden Ale.
- McMenamins Brewery at Old St. Francis resuscitates Aristocratic Imperial IPA.
- Boneyard Beer revives Black 13 with an imperial version at 13% ABV.
- Silver Moon Brewing, Central Oregon’s fourth-oldest brewery, brings Darkside Stout back from its black hole.
- Hop Valley Brewing brings the original Pacific Northwest macro lager, Henry Weinhard’s Private Reserve, back to life.
- 10 Barrel Brewing dug up Oregon Brown IPA from 2012.
- Cascade Lakes Brewing unburied a wee bit o’ Scotland with Angus MacDougal’s 80-Shilling Scottish Ale.
- Crux Fermentation Project, founded in 2012 by brewmaster Larry Sidor who originally brewed for Olympia, re-animates the vintage PNW pre-Prohibition lager with a clone.
- GoodLife Brewing not only remembers big Barleywines but unearthed a vintage keg just for the festivities.
- And it wouldn’t be a Halloween beerfest without one of Oregon’s OGs in the microbrew scene with Rogue Ale’s Dead Guy.
- From Portland, sour fruit specialists Cascade Brewing have a smashing success with Pumpkin Smash.
- And there will be autumnal cider as well.

As with the last Grand Craft Beer event, I got a preview along with several others of what can be expected on Saturday; it looks to be a fun event to kick off the Halloween weekend. Here are a couple of pictures:
