Black Friday
I never participate in the Black Friday shopping craziness (and each year it seems even crazier than last, doesn’t it?) but this year there are a number of Black Friday beer events which would definitely take the sting out of the busiest shopping day of the year.
Portland’s The Green Dragon is teaming up with Brewpublic to put on a special “Black Friday & Black IPAs / CDAs” event all day starting at 11. They’ve assembled an incredible tap list of appropriately-themed beers in what may be the single best CDA “fest” I’ve seen. Not to be missed if you’re in Portland.
Also at the Green Dragon and all the other Rogue locations this week is the annual Rogue Thanksgiving Garale Sale—not “Black Friday” per se as it runs from the 21st through the 25th (Wednesday through Sunday), but it’s a big shopping opportunity with 25% off merchandise so I’m including it here. You don’t have to be at any of their locations on Friday, but if you’re hanging around having a beer you might want to check them out.
Three Creeks Brewing in Sisters has a “Black” Friday event going on: the special release of their new Hodag CDA to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Hoodoo Ski Resort. The party starts at 6pm and in addition to tastings there will be a raffle and prizes (which will include a Hoodoo season pass). The beer itself is described as: “Munich and Crystal malt provide a solid malt backbone while Midnight Wheat and German Caraffa malts stain the beer black in color. Hopped with Bravo, Crystal and Columbus hops, Hodag has a nice piney hop aroma while the flavor balances hints of roast with citrus and mint hop flavors all rounded out by a dry finish.”
Upright Brewing in Portland is celebrating Black Friday with a release of their newest band tribute beer (“Untitled”) commemorating the punk bad Bad Brains. It’s taking place at Saraveza‘s Bad Habit Room from 5 to 8pm where (in addition to the beer) you can watch the Bad Brains documentary “A Band in DC” and partake in the listening party for their new album “Into the Future.” The beer itself is a 6.4% hoppy dark lager and in additional to being on draft bottles will be available for $15 each.
Over in Hood River Double Mountain Brewery is holding a special vertical tasting of four years of their seasonal Christmas beer Fa La La La La on Friday the 23rd; starting when the brewery opens at 11:30, all four vintages (2009 through 2012) will be on tap in limited supply. They are $2 per 5 ounce taster or you can get all four for $7; possibly the best Black Friday deal around!
While it’s not “Black,” Hopworks Urban Brewery is holding a “Green Friday Dock Sale” on Friday: “We’re going to have plenty of great Hopworks beer, as well as shirts and merchandise for you to give the coolest gifts of the season. In addition, we’ll be pouring samples from our world-famous Bar Bike to warm your holiday-loving soul with delicious, organic beer. Shopping and samples from 11 am to 7 pm downstairs in the brewery.”
