Double Mountain Brewery Sweet Jane IPA
Sweet Jane IPA from Double Mountain Brewery is the latest of the brewery’s beers to be released “From the Vault,” as I detailed here, a series featuring recipes from the brewery’s archives making a return appearance. Sweet Jane was originally released in 2017; the brewers tweaked the original recipe a bit for newer ingredients and brewing techniques.
The result is 7% ABV with 70 IBUs, and Double Mountain’s description says:
This IPA is a nod to Lou Reed. It’s a straight up West Coast IPA; a tinge of color, balanced bitterness, and dewy citrus and sticky pine shouting out the verses. Here she comes, she’s gonna break your heart. Sing it with me now, “Sweet Jane!”
Appearance: Copper colored, clear and bright. Creamy off-white head made big by the laser-etched glass.
Smell: Pine and sweet citrus (tangerine, candied orange, pink grapefruit), some tangy wild greens. Clean, with some dank notes in the citrus and greens, and a nice toasted grain/Grape Nuts cereal note.
Taste: Lusciously bready malt with a nice lightly peppery bitterness with a touch of grapefruit pith, overall quite clean with an herbal finish evoking a bit of rosemary, fresh parsley. Toasty bread, solid herbal-citrus hops, moreish and compelling; some herbed Triscuit crackers, forest floor notes, a hint of citrus oil.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, really clean and toasty finish.
Overall: Just a really good IPA, I just keep sipping.
