February is the month for beer

Okay, "the month for beer" may be a slight exaggeration, but there are at least two "Beer Month" things going on that I know about.

First is Strong Beer Month:

February 1st, marks the start of the 7th Annual Strong Beer Month. The brewers of the 21st Amendment and Magnolia Pub and Brewery once again bring you an astounding range of memorable brews to lift the winter doldrums. Visit both breweries, try all twelve beers and keep the special commemorative glass. Commemorative t-shirts are also available. The festivities begin February 1st, but check back often as special kegs and casks of vintage and barrel-aged beers will appear throughout the month and runs the entire month. These special beers and glasses will be available from February 1st until they run out.

And then Fort George Brewery in Astoria, Oregon, is celebrating Stout Month:

February 1st is the beginning of Stout Month at the Fort George Brewery. We dedicate 8 taps to pouring eclectic, hard to get stouts for the month of February. The starting lineup includes: Fort George Brewery – Cavatica Stout, Fort George Brewery – Bourbon Barrel Cavatica, Fort George Brewery – Coffee Girl Stout, Deschutes Brewery – The Abyss, Great Divide Brewery – Oak Aged Yeti, Stone Brewery – Russian Imperial Stout, Victory Brewery – Storm King Stout, and Caldera Brewery – Old Growth Imperial Stout.

And of course we already know about Zwickelmania and the Oregon Sesquicentennial coming up, which should (hopefully) promise some interesting beer happenings.

  1. I would highly recommend that everyone visit Black Sheep Brewery. They have a fantastic range of good, traditional Yorkshire beers, I am becoming a big fan. You can even go on a brewery tour; find out about their range of traditional ales, discover how they are brewed and where to drink them. You can also see what their Visitor Centre and famous Bistro have to offer. The have quite a few great events coming up.

  2. If you’re in SF for Strong Beer Month, make sure to check out the SF Beer Week, bookended by the Bistro’s Double IPA festival on the 7th and Toronado’s Barleywine Festival on the 14th. Celebrator’s new festival will conclude the festivities at the Oakland convention center on the 15th.
