Fresh hops and new beers from Deschutes Brewery

Fall 2021 beers from Deschutes Brewery

I saw that Chasin’ Freshies Fresh Hop IPA went on tap at Deschutes Brewery’s Bend Pub yesterday (along with Hop Trip!), good timing for this news. Deschutes sent out the press release/media sheet on upcoming beers, including several collaborations, which I’m posting here.

Notably, collaborations seems to be the big angle with these upcoming brews, with this news release at least.

It’s Fresh Hop Season, the most wonderful time of the year at the brewery. Deschutes is launching a variety of releases this fall, many with our friends from other breweries near and far and some with not so traditional partners.

Fresh Hops and Deschutes Fresh Family Beers (IPAs that let the hops do the talking)!

Chasin’ Freshies – Our yearly Fresh Hop IPA first released in 2012 is even more unique this time brewed in Bend, but in collaboration with our friends at fellow family-owned German brewery, Bitburger. Like Deschutes, Bitburger is known as a leader in hop development, and this October, Chasin’ Freshies will feature notes of melon, honey, orange, and passionfruit from Pacific Northwest fresh hops Triumph and Cashmere, with Bitburger signature proprietary hops Siegelhopfen and German Callista. More details will be shared upon release later this month.

More Collaborations

Oktoberfest, Ein Prost!

Ludwig Von Crispy – Deschutes Brewery’s first ‘Fest’ beer has just been released in the small batch experimental Shifties Series at Deschutes Brewery pubs and tasting rooms in the King Crispy line, winner of the Bitburger® Challenge! A collaboration between Deschutes Brewery and Skagit Valley Malting in Washington, our brewers worked with directly with Skagit Valley maltsters to utilize small batch malts to recreate the beauty of a Bavarian-style Festbier with locally sourced Pacific  Northwest grains. Ludwig Von Crispy is softly sweet with light toasted malt flavor, perfectly crisp, and crafted for reveling.
6.0% ABV | 25 IBUs | 6 pack 12-ounce cans, draft | $9.50

Let’s Bee Homies – Together with Stone Brewing, this Hazy IPA brewed with honey is a collaboration celebrating both brewery’s investment and commitment to the Hop Research Council and their public hop breeding programs. Blackberry Honey representing Oregon and Orange Blossom Honey representing San Diego are paired with Chinook, Cashmere, Triumph and Comet hops developed through public breeding programs. Launching this month by Stone, across their distribution footprint.
7.5% ABV | 25 IBUs | 4 pack 16-ounce cans ($14), 22-ounce bottles, draft

Move Maker Cold IPA is a collaboration brewed up by Deschutes and Dovetail Workwear to benefit the Pink Boots Society. Move Maker is a Cold IPA, a style that combines the attributes of a light, crushable lager with the hop aromas of an IPA that utilizes the Pink Boots 2021 hop blend. A delicate and crisp drinking experience at 6% ABV with elevated tropical fruit hop aromatics and minimal bitterness at 35 IBUs, this beer was inspired by denim. As a result, Move Maker is a reliable go-to beer, a beer you love as much as your favorite pair of jeans.
6.0% ABV | 35 IBUs | 4 pack 16-ounce cans| $11.00

Festive Winter Ales!

Jubelale – please help us welcome the 34th release of Jubelale into our seasonal lineup. This year’s packaging features original artwork created by Stephanie Littlebird Fogel and now includes 12 pack cans. Scheduled for a late September release across the distribution footprint, Jubelale features spice notes and a robust malt character of toffee and dusted cocoa.
6.7% ABV | 65 IBUs | 6 pack bottles ($9.50) & 12 pack cans ($18.50), draft

Cherries Jubelale – For Thanksgiving this year, we’re welcoming a sweet new Imperial Winter Warmer to the party, Cherries Jubelale. Beloved Super Jubel gets a dessert-inspired twist with this new release adding cherry and vanilla to its rich barrel-aged malty decadence. Barrel-aged in wine, the beer brings in the flavors of Jubelale, but with added strength and complexity from barrel aging. Available across the Deschutes distribution footprint in early November.

Awards

Everyone at Deschutes is beyond excited to be recognized with awards in several recent esteemed beer competitions. Details can be found here.

A Reminder of News We’ve Shared…

In market in October, Whiskey Butte, our Black Butte Porter variant aged in Whiskey barrels, will make its package debut this September in 12-ounce, 4-pack bottles. This beer brings in the lovely oak character of our big strong barrel-aged beers at a very approachable strength and drinkability. Brushes of vanilla, bourbon, and oak notes combine in a rich and bold porter.
9% ABV | 35 IBUs | 4 pack 12-ounce bottles | $11.99

Grower Direct IPA – A new addition to the IPA Variety Pack launching this month, this farm focused limited release IPA was created with CLS Farms in the Yakima Valley. Like a chef gathering local farm fresh ingredients, we connected with CLS Farms, drawn to their passion for public hop varieties and ensuring access of new hop varieties to all farmers and ultimately brewers benefiting the whole industry. We partnered with them every step of the way on this beer from selection to recipe development for a delicious, light, and bright American-style IPA with big hop character from Nugget, Centennial, Cashmere, El Dorado, and Triumph hops.
7.0% ABV | 50 IBUs | 12-ounce bottles Variety Pack | $20.00

Notably, Jubelale is out now (more to come) and I have to say, I might be more excited about Cherries Jubelale than the rest of the beers in this release. Jubelale is already one of my favorite winter brews, and the concept just seems like a natural riff on it; I’m hoping it lives up to the concept.
