Asheville, North Carolina’s Highland Brewing celebrated the lunar new year—the Year of the Tiger—with the release its third annual collaboration beer brewed with Seattle’s Lucky Envelope Brewing. The duo crafted a cold IPA (this year’s hottest new style, it seems) and Highland hosted a release party on Saturday the 5th.

Some details included in the email release:

This year, we made a Cold IPA called Water Tiger IPA.

Barry Chan, Lucky Envelope Co-Founder and Brewer said, “We share a love of craft, family, and culture with Highland, so I’m very excited to translate our shared passion into these collaborations.”

Leah Wong Ashburn, Highland Family-owner and President, said, “The Lunar New Year brings back childhood memories of massive dinner celebrations at home. It was a heroic effort by my mother to honor my father’s Chinese heritage. This time is especially meaningful to my father who fondly recalls extensive feasts and family events growing up in a Chinese community in Jamaica.”

She continued, “Our cross-continent collaboration linking Chinese craft brewery owners demonstrates the pursuit of connection in the craft beer industry. Beer has always, and will always, bring people together.”

Not much detail posted about the beer itself, though I found this description from the release announcement on The Northwest Beer Guide:

This Cold IPA brewed with Seattle’s Marketspice Berry Bush tea marks the third annual Seattle-Asheville zodiac collaboration. Late and dry hop additions of juicy El Dorado hops accentuate the honeybush tea with raspberry, strawberry, and lemongrass.

I’m guessing you can find this beer both in Asheville and in Seattle.
