Latest print article: GABF winners featuring Immersion Brewing
My latest article for The Bulletin, out a week and half ago, covered the local Great American Beer Festival winning beers and breweries, with a focus on Immersion Brewing, a first-time GABF winner this year with its Poggers fruited sour ale.
Immersion has previously won awards at other competitions, including the Best of Craft Beer Awards and the Oregon Beer Awards, though this is its first GABF win. It earned a silver medal in the “Fruited American Sour Ale” category for Poggers, a kettle sour ale brewed with passion fruit, orange and guava.
The Fruited American Sour category was the ninth most-entered category with a total of 160 entries, making for an impressive first-time win for the company.
The brewery calls Poggers a “tiki inspired” beer, designed to emulate the popular Hawaiian POG juice drink, released as a summer seasonal. Debuting in July, Immersion described it as light, dry and slightly tart, with 5% alcohol by volume.
I was able to find a can to review for the article, and also touched on the winning beers from 10 Barrel Brewing, Bend Brewing, and Deschutes Brewery.
