Portland’s Leikam Brewing is a small, certified kosher brewery (one of the few around), and up until now has mostly only been available in the Portland market. That’s set to change, with the brewery announcing its entry into Washington with its Rosh Hashanah beer, Major Pom.

Founded in 2014, Leikam Brewing is a certified kosher, community-centered, family owned and operated brewery. Production began in the backyard of Sonia Marie and Theo Leikam’s Southeast Portland home and moved to their Burnside Taproom at 5812 East Burnside in late 2021. Leikam Brewing is committed to giving back and the principle of tikkun olam or repairing the world. A portion of the profits from their beers support nonprofit organizations they are committed to.

On Sunday, September 18, Leikam will officially hit the Washington market with one of the few examples of beers available for Rosh Hashanah. Rosh Hashanah 2022, which ushers in the Jewish year 5783, starts just before sundown on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, and ends after nightfall on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022.

Major Pom, a pomegranate blonde ale made in collaboration with Muriel’s All Day Eats, will be arriving in time for the high holidays. Muriel’s, located in the Seward Park neighborhood of Seattle, makes amazing kosher food from scratch that would make grandma proud.

Major Pom is a refreshing beer with a fruity and slightly tart profile melded with soft malt. Delicious notes of pomegranate meet the crisp, smooth taste of a blonde ale. Jewish tradition teaches that the pomegranate is a symbol of righteousness, knowledge, and wisdom because it is said to have 613 seeds, each representing one of the 613 mitzvot (commandments) of the Torah.

With a limited number of cases, it will be canned for the first time in 16oz cans- the perfect size for gifting. Pre-ordering by September 16th is recommended.
