Oregon Beer News — 01/12/2021
How’s your Tuesday going? In Oregon beer news today there’s a number of new beers to talk about (though that honestly does make up the bulk of news), along with other tidbits. I’ll be updating this post throughout the rest of the afternoon, so check back occasionally. And as always, the contact form is open for any news to share.
New seasonal IPA from Double Mountain Brewery
The Hood River brewery announced a new seasonal IPA today, a collaboration with Mt. Hood Meadows ski resort named Bullwheel IPA.
Perfect for aprés, this IPA that is highly aromatic, has a balanced bitterness, is super crushable, and borders the line between juicy and classic PNW.
I’ll point to the full release one I have it posted.
New lagers from Wayfinder Beer
Portland’s Wayfinder Beer has a couple of new lagers coming out, as shared in the company’s email newsletter. Linear Ashes is a “Rauchbier Spezial” that is a collab with Structures Brewing; the brewery says, “This luxurious smoked lager is full bodied, herbal and drying with a big dose of Beechwood smoke.”
The other is Glass Dolls, and Italian-style Pilsner:
Speaking of collaborations we also brewed Glass Dolls, an Italian-Style Pilsner for our friends at Edison City Alehouse for their anniversary. It’s a lighter in alcohol but punchy in hop and body; made with Ariana, Mittelfrüh and Magnum hops with a base-layer of floor malted grains, fermented agonizingly cold and krausened to perfection.
Oort Imperial Stout variants from Ecliptic
I posted the press release this morning about the Oort Imperial Stout variants coming from Ecliptic Brewing this month:
Ecliptic’s original Oort Imperial Stout has been in the company’s lineup since 2015, and this year, they’re adding an additional option with a Linzer Torte Edition. Both of these beers are part of Ecliptic’s Special Release Series and will come in 16-ounce cans and draft. A bourbon barrel-aged version will also be released as part of the Reserve Series in 500ml bottles and draft.
Level Beer owns the moment with All I Do Is Win
Level Beer dropped a new beer in the same theme as its other “presidential” beers, with a hazy IPA named All I Do Is Win.
Rampant fraud in the Hazy IPA community! BUs aren’t being reported fairly! Pounds per barrel completely inaccurate! All hops recorded after initial brew day shouldn’t be counted! Goodbye, Stable Genius!
Don’t Drink Fake Brews.
All I do is win, win, win no matter what!
The contents of this can will deliver you the results you want. Bright citrus & mango hop aroma with mild notes of passion fruit and melon.
ABV – 6.5%
BUs – Still counting
Gluten-free IPA from Evasion is back
McMinnville’s Evasion Brewing posted news about its Blood Orange IPA: “After far too long, we are happy to say that Blood Orange IPA is back in stock. It can be purchased online and picked up at our brewery or shipped to your door. ” Evasion specializes in all gluten-free beers.
Ridgeback Red Ale in cans from Block 15
Block 15 Brewing in Corvallis has its long-time Ridgeback Red Ale going into cans; it will be available this Saturday at the brewery’s drive-thru pickup sale.
Finishing delightfully crisp for a malt-forward red, it’s no surprise that Ridgeback Red has been a staple on Block 15 tap lists for the better part of our existence, and a favorite of both our customers and our staff, alike!
Though not a year-round selection, expect to see more of Ridgeback Red as a frequent contributor to our lineup of canned beers in 2021, starting with this Saturday, both at our Tap Room and through our weekend Drive-Thru sale.
Upcoming new breweries and taprooms
The New School features a good in-depth article today on the most anticipated new breweries and taprooms opening up in Oregon for 2021. There’s some ambitious plans in the works, especially from Breakside Brewery and Von Ebert Brewing; and possibly the most interesting-sounding new brewery will be the Japanese-inspired Shimai-Toshi Brewing. Be sure to read the full article.
Viking Braggot releasing a braggot lager on Friday
Eugene’s Viking Braggot Company is releasing a lager/braggot hybrid this coming Friday the 15th, named Rune, a “smooth, dark and roasty lager brewed with local wildflower honey for a crisp and complex braggot.”
Shrouded in mystery, the Norse shamans of old used mystic symbolism to imbue objects of the material world with power. These symbols were called runes. Imbued with a magic of its own, this deceivingly dark lager is as sessionable as its lighter brethren. The roasted barley that dominates the nose of Rune is countered by a light, clean body. Hints of cola nut and mild honey come through in the flavor, which is finished with a touch of the mildly floral and citrusy Centennial hop.
