Oregon Beer News, 01/16/2014
Here is the news in Oregon beer for the penultimate day of the week, Thursday, January 16. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Belmont Station (Portland) is hosting Redmond’s Cascade Lakes Brewing‘s 20th anniversary party today from 5 to 8pm—the party keeps on rolling! “Central Oregon’s Cascade Lakes Brewing has been doin’ it right for 20 years. That’s cause for celebration! And that’s exactly what the Cascade Lakes gang will be doing when they hit Belmont Station on January 16. Cascade Lakes co-owner and Brewing Operations Director Rick Orazetti will be on hand for the festivities! To celebrate, in the biercafe, we will be pouring the brand-new Cascade Lake’s 20th Anniversary IPA — many of our staff already have tasted it and are calling it a hands-down winner. We also will be pouring Cascade Lake’s bold, rare and tasty Deep Space 90 Imperial Stout. Buy a pint of either and keep the glass (while supplies last)! In the bottle shop, we will be holding a Cascade Lakes tasting, with four of their beers available to sample: 20th Anniversary IPA, Project X Pale Ale, Blonde Bombshell and Monkey Face Porter. Come by for a taste or a pint and wish these guys good luck for another 20 years!”
McMenamins Kennedy School (Portland) has a special wood-aged beer tasting today, featuring Whiskey Terminator Stout: “We filled a Hogshead Whiskey barrel with a delicious batch of Terminator Stout and the beer in your hands is the result. This beer is dark and rich with a whiskey punch. This is a very limited release so grab one before they’re gone.” It starts at 5pm and there are select food specials pairing with the beer as well.
The White Owl Social Club (Portland) is hosting a release party for Sierra Nevada Brewing’s Bigfoot Barleywine tonight, starting at 6:30pm: “We really wanted to kick it off the right way, so we added some other killer Sierra Nevada brews to the checklist to ring in the New Year and give praise to one of the very best and longest-running craft breweries in North America! Check out the beer lineup below. Also, Sierra Nevada prizes will be awarded. AND we didn’t stop there! We also invited Bigfoot investigators to give presentations on Bigfoot studies, theories, history and background information.” This should be a fun evening, and if you love Bigfoot—one of the best American barleywines, in my opinion—don’t miss out!
The Bier Stein (Eugene) is hosting BridgePort Brewing for their 30th anniversary celebration at the Stein tonight from 6 to 9pm: “Back in the dark days of the 80s, there were very few craft breweries. Founded as the Columbia River Brewery in 1984, Bridgeport soon earned a reputation for its IPA. Fast forward to now. We’ll be tapping a flight of four beers: Hop Czar, Hop Czar “Citra,” Porter, and Oak-Aged Honey Porter (featured at this year’s Holiday Ale Fest). One of the brewers and rep Dan Wecker will be here to MC.”
Rogue Eugene Public House (Eugene) has a meet the brewer tonight starting at 5:30: “Sam will be behind the bar serving his Track Town ales, chatting with customers, and answering questions. From Track Town we’ve got 200m IPA, Triple Jump pale, Honey Orange Wheat, Hurdle CDA, and Pole Vault coffee porter! As well as a huge selection of Rogue beers. Cheers!”
Rock Bottom Brewery (Portland) has a special tapping tonight: “We are tapping the Gold Medal Winning Moonlight Porter tonight, Thursday January 16th, from 6-7 pm. Howl at the moon, folks!”
