Oregon Beer News, 01/19/2016
Here’s the news in beer from around Oregon for Tuesday, the 19th of January. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.
Bend’s GoodLife Brewing and The Ale Apothecary have teamed up to produce what sounds like a pretty unique beer: a Dortmunder lager inoculated with a mixed strain of wild yeasts, including Brettanomyces. The beer has gone into barrels to age for a year—so we won’t see this beer until at least 2017! GoodLife posted a video of The Ale Apothecary’s Paul Arney describing the process. This will definitely be one to look forward to.
Belmont Station (Portland) has a fun popcorn and cider pairing event today from 5 to 7pm, featuring Washington’s Finnriver Cider: “Masala Pop, savory Indian-spiced popcorn, is one of our favorite bar snacks and it pairs well with Finn River’s incredible ciders. Swing by for samples of both ciders and spicy popcorn and find your own favorite pairing!”
Stickmen Brewing (Lake Oswego): Tonight they are hosting a Winter Brewer’s Pairing Dinner at their pub starting at 6:30pm: “Four course dinner with both beer and wine parings for each course. The menu and pairings have been picked by our Head Brewer, Chef, and General Manager. Vote after each course for your favorite pairing – everybody wins! Seating is very limited, so reserve your seat today. 503-344-4449.” It’s $50 per person, and there may still be slots open—call if you are interested!
The BeerMongers (Portland) is hosting Seattle’s Fremont Brewing tonight starting at 5pm for a “Fremont Fun Night“: “Join us for a night of fun at The Beer Mongers in Portland! We’ll have 6 beers on tap plus a few tricks up our sleeve. Be sure to swing by! Tap List: Interurban IPA, Session Pale Ale, Bourbon Dark Star, Coffee Cinnamon B-Bomb, Gose, and Dark Star!”
Cascade Brewing (Portland): Tonight’s Tap It Tuesday at the Barrel House at 6pm is featuring Elderberry Blond: “a single-barrel release that highlights the unique characteristics of dried elderberry fruit on a base of NW style sour Blond ale. Elderberry Blond offers flavors of red grapes, dark bramble fruits and black cherries with a mild earthy note. Cheers!”
Ecliptic Brewing (Portland) announced today that they will be releasing a triple IPA on February 3, dubbed Hypernova Triple IPA. From the press release: “Making its return after being brewed only for Portland and Seattle International Beer Fests in 2015, Hypernova Triple IPA will be released in both draft and 22oz bottles for the first time on February 3rd. Coming in at 12% ABV and exploding with flavor and aroma, this beer is guaranteed to satisfy peoples craving for a hop forward beer with layers of character. Hypernova Triple IPA is a once-a-year offering as part of Ecliptic Brewing’s Special Release line-up.” Keep an eye out for this one when it hits the shelves!
Block 15 Brewery (Corvallis): Their main downtown Corvallis pub (and brewery) is closed this week while they “do a little sprucing up” with a tentative plan to be open by this Friday at happy hour. In the meantime, you can head over to their taproom beginning today for their latest beer release: “For today’s release, founding brewer Nick selected St. Steve’s Private Reserve alongside 2011 Ferme De La Ville Provision. Available for on-site consumption only.”
