Oregon Beer News, 01/29/2016
It’s the last Friday (and weekend) of January! Here’s the news in Oregon beer for this 29th (and 30th and 31st). As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please let me know and I can get that updated as well.
Three Creeks Brewing (Sisters): Today (Friday) is the annual release of their McKay’s Scottish Ale starting at 6:30pm: “Join us as we pay tribute to our lovable local Don McKay with the celebration of our Mckay’s Scottish Ale. Sisters own master piper, Mark McIntire, will kick-off the event with traditional Scottish sounds of bagpipes. Don’t forget to wear your kilt to earn yourself some free TCBC swag. Don’t have a kilt? GET ONE!”
There is also a Three Creeks tasting taking place tonight (Friday) at Redmond Craft Brewing Supply (ind downtown Redmond) from 5 to 7pm.
Eugene’s Ninkasi Brewing is being featured at Portland’s Imperial Bottle Shop Friday evening for the release of their new Easy Way IPA: “We’ll be pouring $4, 20 oz pours of both Easy Way and Helles Belles lager, and we’ll also have their R&D series Mango IPA on tap as well! Easy Way IPA… dynamic medley of hops and a crisp, satisfying finish define this enexpectedly sessionable IPA. Aromatic and drinkable, the big, fruity hops nose and toasted malt flavor are anything but ordinary. Break the routine; go the Easy Way. Enjoyed Since: 2016 | OG: 1045 | IBUs: 44 | ABV: 4.7%”
McMenamins is celebrating a huge milestone this weekend with the 30th anniversary of their Hammerhead Pale Ale! It starts Saturday the 30th: “On this day in 1986 a special beer was born at the Hillsdale Brewery in Southwest Portland, clad in overalls and christened Hammerhead. Celebrate this 30th milestone with food & ale specials at ALL McMenamins locations on both Saturday, Jan. 30 and Sunday, Jan. 31.” The specials are on Hammerhead, of course, as well as Hammerhead-themed food specials. The 23rd Avenue Bottle Shop will have a special Hammerhead tasting tray of four versions. Make sure to stop by your local McMenamins this weekend and enjoy a pint or three!
Saturday the 30th Base Camp Brewing‘s 2nd annual Collabofest takes place at the brewery starting at 1pm; it features 16 breweries and 2 cideries brewing up 17 different collaboration beers and ciders between them—all unusual, special one-off beers. “The event will kick off on January 30th at 1 pm for our VIP guests and a special brewers meet and greet. Doors open to the public at 2 pm and the party continues until 8 pm. This is more than just a beer festival, there will also be live music, human fussball, food trucks and the event is open to all ages!”
The 3rd annual Northwest Coffee Beer Invitational is taking place Saturday the 30th, from noon to 7pm, at the Goose Hollow Inn in Portland. The $15 admission includes a festival glass and 8 taster tickets, with which you can sample beers from at least 16 different breweries.
The Civic Taproom (Portland) is putting on their Barrel Aged Beer & Cider Fest Saturday starting at noon, with a really nice selection of beers going on tap. “We’re putting all Barell Aged kegs on tap Sat Jan 30. Our GM, Sean, hand-picked each keg! Join us all day for some super tastey beers and ciders! $25 gets you a souvenir cup and a taster flight of all the taps!”
