Oregon Beer News, 01/30/2017
I hope your weekend was a good one, all things considered! Here is the news in Oregon beer for the start of a new week, Monday, January 30. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back often. If you have news to share, please let me know and I can get that updated as well.
Deschutes Brewery (Bend) has a new Pub Reserve series beer releasing today at (only) the Bend and Portland pubs, and the Bend tasting room: Planéte Bruin, a sour brown ale. The Bend Pub will offer tastings, bottles for sale, and food specials; the Portland Pub will have food specials of their own. Bottles are $22.
The annual Salem Winter Brewfest returns and kicks off this Wednesday, February 1, and runs through Saturday. The fest takes place at the Capitol Mall and they say: “The organizers of the ONG Hoopla and The Bite & Brew of Salem present a winter event that brings together what makes the Willamette Valley and Salem a great place to live. Join your friends in a giant heated tent for 100+ beers and ciders on tap along with great live music and a variety of food. Price of admission includes taste tickets and souvenir glass.” Facebook event page is here; you can pre-purchase tickets online here, and take note that “Wednesday FREE ADMISSION Preview Party from 6p to 10p featuring Lagunitas Brewing Co and 2 Towns Ciderhouse taps only!”
Bend’s Worthy Brewing is celebrating their fourth anniversary this weekend, their Golden Birthday Party—turning four on the 4th! I’d posted some details about it here: “Brewer Dustin Kellner and team are brewing up a yet to be named India Golden Ale to be released on Feb 4 and on Feb 5, they will be re-releasing for a limited time Go Time eXtra Pale Ale. GTX was the first beer Worthy brewed. We’ll also have culinary specials paired with the beers each day and a commemorative glass will be sold for $6 (which includes a fill).” And I got word today the beer is named “Crash Worthy Golden Ale.” Make sure to visit Worthy this weekend to help them celebrate!
And Bend’s Broken Top Bottle Shop is celebrating their anniversary this weekend as well, their fifth! Their party will be from 3 to 10pm Saturday the 4th. “Broken Top Bottle Shop is 5 years young! Help us celebrate 5 years in business with awesome live music and some of our favorite brews. 2 Towns Ciderhouse will be pouring samples from 3-6pm. Leadbetter & Young will open at 6pm and Upstate Trio will play from 7:30-10pm. On tap: Pliny the Elder IPA from Russian River Brewing Company, Return of the Mack Cider from 2 Towns Ciderhouse, Hopscotch from Crux Fermentation Project, and GingerSnap Sour from Cascade Brewing.”
Don’t forget that Mondays are “Growler Mondays” at all McMenamins locations, where growler fills on standard beers are only $8 (with high gravity beers $10, and Reserve beers not on special). Good deals on a lot of beer there.
Ancestry Brewing (Portland): They have newly bottled their beer! “Your favorite Ancestry beers are now in bottles! Stop by the brewery in Tualatin or taproom in Sellwood to pick some up.”
