Oregon Beer News, 02/05/2018
Happy Monday! We’ve survived the first weekend in February and the unseasonably warm weather continues. Here’s the Oregon beer news for the new week to help you plan your beer activities accordingly. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back often. If you have news to share, please let me know and I can get that updated as well.
Deschutes Brewery is canning beer! I’d been hearing rumblings about it, and they posted a video on Facebook today which gives a first look at the three initial beers rolling off the canning line: Pacific Wonderland Lager, Fresh Squeezed IPA, and Mirror Pond Pale Ale. (I’m a little disappointed that Black Butte Porter didn’t make the initial cut.) I believe the cans will be hitting the market towards March, so keep an eye out!
Belmont Station (Portland) is temporarily closing the biercafé for renovations. “The biercafé is closed for a while for a much-needed facelift. The bottle shop will be open as usual! Keep an eye here, on Twitter and on Instagram for updates! And yes, there will be a grand re-opening party!” They plan to have the space closed until Monday the 12th.
This Friday a new brewery is having its grand opening in Portland: Look Long Brewing Company. “After an eternity of preparation, perspiration, and fermentation, Look Long Brewing Company is opening for business! We’ve got our first batch of beers kegged and ready to pour. Come on in and grab a pint or two and party with us as we celebrate the opening of the biggest, newest, hottest brewery on the corner of N Interstate Ave and N Liberty St.” This one barrel brewery spun out of The Homebrew Exchange homebrew supply and gift shop, and currently looks like they (will?) have six beers on tap to check out.
According to Jay Brooks who tracks these sorts of things, on this day in 1995 Bend Brewing Company opened its doors. That makes today the brewery’s official 23rd birthday—congrats! Try to find some BBC beer to drink today to celebrate.
Three Creeks Brewing (Sisters): This Saturday, the 10th, is the brewery’s annual Beer and Dessert Pairing: “Just around the corner from Valentine’s Day, grab a date or a friend, or go stag and treat yourself! Join us, Saturday, February 10th at 3pm for the 6th Annual Beer & Dessert Pairing! We will be featuring some of our absolute favorite dessert beers, with delectable appetizers by head chef, Mark Perry. Gratuity is included with your $25 ticket. Reservations are required. Please call 541.549.1963 for reservations and details.”
