Oregon Beer News, 02/06/2018
Here is the news in beer from around Oregon for this Tuesday, February 6. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted too.
Montavilla Brew Works (Portland) is hosting the bottle release party for Ben’s Barleywine Ale, the tribute beer they brewed in honor of the late Ben Flerchinger of the Lucky Lab. “Come celebrate our very first bottling with us on Tuesday, February 6th at 5pm! We brewed a special commemorative barleywine last year and bourbon barrel-aged it for 10 months. Then we blended it with a fresh barleywine for a smooth, balanced strong ale. This beer commemorates the life and brewing prowess of our departed friend, Ben Flerchinger. Bottles and cases will be available for purchase at the taproom. See you then!”
This weekend the KLCC Brewfest returns to the Lane Events Center in Eugene, one of the popular and longer-running festivals in the state. Featuring 80 breweries and cideries pouring over 200 varieties of beer and cider, the event also features collaboration brews from Eugene-area breweries with a “Tour the World” theme unique to the fest. Single day tickets are $15, and both days cost $22, which you can purchase on the fest page. This is definitely a must-visit brewfest if you’re in the Willamette Valley area this weekend.
Cascade Brewing (Portland): Their Tap It Tuesday at the Barrel House at 6pm is featuring Coconut Lime: “a sour blond ale aged in a neutral oak wine barrel for 14 months, then infused with shredded coconut and fresh lime peel just before release. Bright lime flavors are met with a subtle yet rounding coconut finish, making this week’s live barrel reminiscent of somewhere with plenty of sun and sand!” Considering the warm weather in the forecast this week, this sounds about right.
Worthy Brewing (Bend): Their monthly Pint Night fundraiser takes place today, benefiting the STEM program at Bend’s Buckingham Elementary School. “In February, our pint night will be in support of the Buckingham Elementary STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) program! Come out and support one of your local schools. $1 of every pint sold between 4pm-9pm will be donated to support this program. Every month we host a pint night in support of a great cause. Rogue Ales (Newport) has 2018 Rolling Thunder Imperial Stout coming out this month. From the press release: “From the only farm-brewery-distillery-cooperage, Rolling Thunder Imperial Stout is brewed with ingredients grown at Rogue Farms, and then ocean aged for nine months in barrels made by hand at Rogue’s Rolling Thunder Barrel Works. The barrels, which previously held Dead Guy Whiskey, add notes of whiskey and vanilla to Rolling Thunder Imperial Stout. This year’s version pours black with a creamy head and features deep sherry notes accentuated by hints of raspberries, brown sugar and vanilla, held up against a dark roasted malt backbone with earthy hops. Rolling Thunder Imperial Stout is available nationally in limited quantities on draft and in hand-numbered, 500 ml (16.9 ounce) bottles.”
Ex Novo Brewing (Portland) has two new seasonals in bottles available now: “Fresh off the bottling line, our two Spring seasonals are ready for you! Perle Haggard Pilsner is crisp and refreshing, showcasing premium malt and Noble hops. Marryin Berries is a Gose with whole fruit Marionberry and Raspberry added in fermentation. Jammy, tart and beautiful! Available through April in our distribution networks on the West Coast!”
