Oregon Beer News, 02/08/2017
Happy Hump Day! Here is the news in Oregon beer for this Wendesday, February 8… working on some semblance of “normalcy.” As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Worthy Brewing (Bend) is the brewery of honor for a six-course beer dinner being held at the Beachcomber Pub in Florence tonight from 6 to 9pm: “This will be a 6 course meal created by Chef Sarah to highlight the flavors of the 6 different special beers from Worthy Brewing. Reservations necessary. If you stop in, just inform your server or call 541-997-6357.” The menu is posted here.
Ecliptic Brewing (Portland): All day today they will be raising funds to Help Alvie: “10% of sales at Ecliptic Brewing on February 8th will be donated to help Alvie, a member of the Ecliptic team. Alvie recently experienced some medical complications and had to have surgery. We are hoping to help alleviate some financial stress so that he can focus on healing. Please bring your family and friends to Ecliptic Brewing on February 8th and help Alvie!”
Portland’s Saraveza is one of the latest stops for the Founders Brewing gang today with a Founders launch party kicking off at 4pm: “Yes! Yes! Yes! One of the Midwest’s favorite and most acclaimed breweries is making its debut in Portland. You’ll start to see their beers on shelves in early February. This should wet your whistle for Saraveza’s explosion of Founders Brewing on Wednesday, Feb. 8th! Saraveza will have some usual suspects and barrel-aged beers on draft paired with Founders’ co-founder Mike Stephens and some additional Founders big wigs and brewery reps. It’s our job to make this Midwest group feel at home here in Portland. Let’s welcome this crew and one of America’s founding craft breweries to town with style. Stay till 8pm when the Brewvana bus will swing by and take you to East Burn to continue on with the festivities.”
As they mention in the Saraveza post, the Founders party then moves to the EastBurn, as they do a tap takeover starting at 8pm: “An amazing Michigan brewery is making it’s debut in the Portland scene and we get to be the launch spot for a solid 10 beer line up! Featuring live music from Scratch Dog String Band at 9pm and DJ ATM in the Tap Room!”
And Bailey’s Taproom will also be hosting a Founders Portland launch today from 4 to 9pm, where they will be showcasing 11 Founders beers: All Day IPA, Centennial IPA, Porter, Rubios, Azacca IPA, Nitro Stout, Imperial Stout, Lizard of Coz, Fruitwood, Red’s Rye, and Backwoods Bastard.
Portland’s Coalition Brewing will be at the Hawthorne Hophouse tonight from 6 to 8pm for a tasting of their CBD-infused 2 Flowers IPA: “You may have heard that brewers from our neighbor Coalition Brewing have created Two Flowers IPA, which is an IPA infused with CBD oil and hemp juice. It’s gotten a lot of press as of late, and we’re getting it on tap. Elan, head brewer from Coalition, along with Bill from Half-Baked Labs, will be at Hawthorne for a tasting of this new beer. They will be around to ask questions about the properties of this beer, and tell you everything you want to know about weed and beer but were too afraid to ask. Wednesday 2/8 , 6:00-8:00 PM, Hawthorne location”
The Beerworks beer bar in Medford is welcoming California’s Firestone Walker Brewing tonight for a tap takeover from 6 to 9pm: “For 2017 Firestone Walker is doing away with their flagships Double Jack, Wookey Jack, and Opal. So we’ll be sending off the beloved Double jack and welcoming their new experimental hop series Luponic Distortion! Come down and learn about Firestone Walker and win some swag!”
Baerlic Brewing (Portland): They have a new beer release today: Test Flight Tropical IPA. “Come try our first crack/trial run/R&D Batch/Test Flight of a BRAND NEW year-round beer we’re working on. This Bird has one leg in the tropics with huge pineapple and mango notes and the other in the Pacific Northwest with intense stonefruit and clean pine characteristics. Pale and wheat malts give it a medium body while a bit of oats helps smooth out the dry finish.” The release starts at 4pm.
Rogue‘s Eastside Portland Pub, formerly the Green Dragon, has their Green Dragon Brew Crew release tonight at 5pm, featuring Monster Slayer: “Monster Slayer is an American pale ale that is named in honor of Perseus, the epic hero from Greek Mythology. This bright, crisp and refreshing pale ale was designed to be both bold and balanced. Monster Slayer showcases the bold fruity and spicy characteristics of Medusa, Galaxy, and Zeus hops balanced with supporting malts and a generous amount of flaked oats to add smoothness and increase mouthfeel. ABV 6.2%, IBU 40”
Ecliptic Brewing: In addition to their fundraiser today, they are also releasing Hypernova Triple IPA once again! “Triple IPA season is upon us and our Hypernova Triple IPA will soon be available for you to enjoy. Stop by the pub on February 8th and be the first to try it! Draft and 22oz bottles will be available. About Hypernova Triple IPA: Like its cataclysmic namesake, Hypernova Triple India Pale Ale explodes with flavor. Hypernova is layered with tons of hop bitterness and character. Two separate dry hop additions with loads of Simcoe, Amarillo, Cascade, Chinook, and Columbus hops amplify Hypernova’s aroma to stellar proportions. ABV 12% IBU 88”
