Oregon Beer News, 02/10/2015
Here is the news in Oregon beer for Tuesday, the 10th of February. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.
Full Sail Brewing (Hood River) is holding the Portland release of this year’s Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout at their Pilsner Room from 6 to 7:30pm tonight. “For 12 months our Imperial Stout has been aging in two types of bourbon whiskey casks — Jim Beam and Four Roses. Our final release is a blend of the two, but we reserved some of each from the individual barrels for a stellar horizontal tasting. Compare the distilleries’ barrels to the final blend with us at our Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout release party.” Fantastic opportunity to sample the three versions side-by-side, so don’t miss it!
McMenamins on Monroe (Corvallis) has a special beer release and tasting today from 5 til 9pm, featuring Pepperhead, a Jalapeño Golden Ale: “This Golden ale has a slight twist. Putting peppers in the keg for several weeks, using peppers instead of hops to give this beer its kick. You might wonder where this idea sprang from. Back in the early ’90s there was a beer called “Crazy Eddie’s Chili Beer” that had a pepper in the bottle. I thought it was great, most of my friends were not so sure. I hope that you enjoy its warming qualities. Cheers.” It sounds pretty drinkable at only 4.27% abv, but if they used peppers instead of hops for the entire beer it’s a chili gruit. (Though it only sounds “dry-hopped” with peppers—dry-peppered?)
Belmont Station‘s “Bigger, Badder, Blacker!” week continues today with a highlight on Baker City’s Barley Brown’s: “Get Down with Barley Brown’s — Featuring Barrel-Aged Don Vanucchi, Disorder Stout, Chaos CDA and more.” Their beers will be features all day today, and a good reminder that bigger and blacker does not always mean “stout”—particularly with the CDA’s that Barley Brown’s specializes in!
Cascade Brewing (Portland): Tonight’s Tap It Tuesday at their Barrel House at 6pm is featuring La Vie En Rose: “As a special treat for Valentine’ Day, we’ve collaborated with our friends at The Tao of Tea to create this limited sour offering. We infused a barrel of sour Wheat ale with a unique blend of dried rose hips, rose petals and hibiscus tea crafted for us by Tao of Tea founder Veerinder Chawla. La Vie En Rose features flavors of roses, cranberries, watermelon, grapefruit and hibiscus tea.”
Lompoc Brewing (Portland) has a release tonight as well: “Tonight’s the Batch 69 Baltic Porter release party from 4-10pm at Sidebar. This strong dark beer has hints of chocolate and black licorice. It was brewed with a lager yeast giving it a much cleaner and smoother finish than a traditional porter. 7.7% ABV”
Silver Moon Brewing (Bend) has a new beer coming out: IPA 97. “Our new IPA 97 received fantastic reviews at last weekend’s KLCC Brewfest in Eugene. We’ll be pouring it this Saturday for Zwickelmania, along with specialty beer tastings off the zwickel, brewery tours and other surprises. Get your IPA 97 t-shirt for just $10 this Saturday when you visit the Moon!” (Highway 97 is the north-south highway that goes through Bend.)
