Oregon Beer News, 02/12/2014
Welcome to Wednesday! We’re nearly to Valentine’s Day, do you have (beer) plans yet? Here is the news in Oregon beer for February 12. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Belmont Station (Portland) today has the Double Mountain Brewery bottle release of their two much-loved Krieks, taking place from 5 to 8pm: “It’s time again for Double Mountain to unleash its delicious Devil’s Kriek and Tahoma Kriek (formerly Rainier Kriek) bottles into the world! Bottles of these limited release, bottle-conditioned sours will go on sale at 5 PM on Wednesday, Feb. 12 and Dave Alan from the brewery will be here 5-8 PM. The first 24 customers who buy bottles will get a free kriek tulip glass! Amounts are limited, so come early!”
McMenamins Edgefield (Troutdale): They have a limited-edition beer tasting today featuring Edgefield Extra 2013: “The Extra’s roots go back nearly to the very beginning of the brewery’s founding in 1991. In its original form, the Extra was a 7%-8% ABV strong ale that was famous for wreaking havoc at the 1992 company picnic and in taphouses around McMenamins. It’s been more than twenty years since that fateful day, but now it has returned as Edgefield’s barleywine and strongest offering at nearly 9.5%. This Extra is a traditional English barleywine that is huge on Maris Otter malt character and brimming with graham cracker and toffee flavors. This special link between the past and present has been one of our brewers’ favorite technical challenges to make and is a beer that promises to age extremely well. The Extra will surface occasionally as the base for some of our barrel-aged offerings, and will be re-released from time to time as it matures. We at Edgefield hope you enjoy it for years to come.” It starts at 5pm and lasts until the beer is gone.
Barley Brown’s Brewpub (Baker City): The collaboration beer they brewed with Bend’s Boneyard Beer is coming up soon, and they are running a t-shirt contest to celebrate:”Allocation IIPA (a collaboration by Barley Brown’s Brew Pub & Boneyard Beer) is almost ready and to celebrate we are giving away one of our limited edition T-shirts! Share and comment on this photo to be entered into the drawing. We will announce the winner on Monday, February 17th at 6:00pm.”
Worthy Brewing (Bend) has a new beer release today as part of their Heart and Soul series (brewed on the 5bbl pilot system): Labor Power Red Lager. “This reddish-hued lager was brewed with Bavarian yeast and a mix of domestic and imported malts. Using Ultra hops, a fairly rare hop that is reminiscent of the “noble” varieties from Europe, this medium hopped beer has a slightly sweet finish.”
Stickmen Brewery & Skewery (Lake Oswego) has a new release of their own: “Our new beer release this week is also our Valentines present to you. We aged our imperial porter with cocoa nibs and Oregon cherries to celebrate. This is a very small batch so get it while you can! 7.4% | 41 IBU’s”
