Oregon Beer News, 02/17/2015
Happy Mardi Gras! Here is the news in Oregon beer for Tuesday, the 17th of February. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Cascade Brewing (Portland) has a new beer out, and of course their Tap It Tuesday event tonight. Check out this new beer: “Introducing 2014 Barrel Aged Karma Citracide DIIPA: This is what happens when you take our tropical fruit and citrus hop bomb Imperial IPA brewed with a blend of Columbus, Chinook and Citra hops and organic coconut palm sugar, then age it in Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels. Candied-citrus and caramel aromas begin the journey, followed by flavors of vanilla and coconut, and ending with a malty, citrusy finish. 10.4% ABV/ 70 IBU’s/ $7 Glass / $2.5 Taster / $50 Growler / $30 Grenade”
And for their Tap It Tuesday tonight at 6pm at the Barrel House, they are tapping: “Pineapple Wheat, a special release for our upcoming Tart Fruit Fest happening Feb. 25 through Mar. 2. Pineapple Wheat is blend of Wheat and Blond sour ales aged in white wine barrels with pineapple for up to 14 months. Rich flavors of both dried and fresh pineapple are complemented with subtle notes of Pinot Gris and tropical fruit. 6.5% ABV / $7.5 – 8oz Glass / $2.5 Taster”
Double Mountain Brewery (Hood River) is releasing their Chaos Reigns Imperial Stout in bottles for the first time, the New School reports. “The beer is currently available on draft and by bottle at the Double Mountain Brewery & Taproom located in downtown Hood River, as well as in better bottleshops in the Northwest now.” And Double Mountain’s description of the beer reads: “As a brewer, you can only guide the beer you brew. Mother Nature and yeast have minds of their own, and will do what they please within the guidelines we as brewers provide. In homage to the Chaos that rules our lives, we bring you Chaos Reigns. Dark, all encompassing, deceptively silky smooth with a warm afterglow. Make it Reign! 10.6% ABV, 100+ BU”
Pelican Pub & Brewery (Pacific City): They are brewing up a collaboration beer with three other breweries: “Herein lies our newest collaboration with Buoy Beer Company, Heater Allen Brewing and Two Kilts Brewing Co! Look for it around the Portland-area during the Craft Brewer’s Conference this April 14th-17th.” (Posted with a picture of the kettle.) No other details yet as to what the beer itself is going to be, but that is certainly a very interesting set of collaborators… I’d guess a lager of some kind, but we’ll have to wait to see.
Worthy Brewing (Bend) is into the Mardi Gras spirit, with a new beer release and food special today: “Happy Mardi Gras! We’re celebrating with a new release from the Heart and Soul Series. Le Pêche Farmhouse Ale, a French-Belgian style made with real peaches, is on tap now and paired with a Rockfish Po’ Boy with Cajun fries. We’ve got housemade Jambalaya, too.”
The Commons Brewery (Portland) is also brewing up a collaboration beer for the Craft Brewers Conference: “Today we’re brewing up a collaboration with Green Bench Brewing Co. Look for this on tap at a soon-to-be-announced event during the Craft Brewers Conference!” Green Bench Brewing is based in Florida so that should be interesting.
