Oregon Beer News, 02/22/2017
Happy Wednesday! Apparently today is National Margarita Day—not beer related but worth a toast for sure! Here’s the non-margarita news in Oregon beer for February 22; as usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Cascade Brewing‘s sixth annual Sour Fruit Fest kicks off today, and runs through Sunday. “The Sour Fruit Fest will feature more than 50 exclusive Cascade sour fruit beers on rotation throughout the week, with at least 25 sour beers on tap each day at the Barrel House, and 10 at the Raccoon Lodge. The Barrel House will also offer a savory/sweet food pairing menu and vintage bottles for sale. The event is free to attend, beer sampling costs additional.” Today’s headline beer going on tap at both locations is Cherry Bourbonic. This is a great week for sour beer lovers!
McMenamins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse (Hillsboro) has their Roadhouse Refreshments beer tasting tonight from 6 to 9pm, featuring a taster tray of specialty brews from CPR and guest McMenamins breweries. Tonight’s lineup looks to include several that will be on tap at this weekend’s Hillsdale Brewfest: The Panichkul Herbal Pilsner (Thompson Brewery), Hard Days Red (Crystal Brewery), Hibernator Doppelbock (Concordia Brewery), and Whiskey Peach IPA (CPR).
The Bier Stein (Eugene): Their STOUTbierzeit month continues with a Founders Brewing event tonight starting at 6pm: “On Feb. 22 we kick off the last weekend of STOUTBIERZEIT with the debut of Founders Brewing here in Eugene. Not only will we tap some great beers from the famed Grand Rapids, Michigan brewery, but we will pull some random gems from our cellar throughout the weekend.” I expect Founders Breakfast Stout will have a big part of tonight’s taplist!
Bazi Bierbrasserie (Portland) is teaming up with New Belgium Brewing today for a “New & Old Belgian Collaboration” tasting event from 6 to 9pm: “This New Belgium Lips of Faith tasting event is a fundraiser for the Immigration Counseling Service (ICS) (ics-law.org), a non-profit organization that for over 35 years has been dedicated to improving the lives of Oregon’s immigrant communities, and most recently expanded to include work with unaccompanied children and survivors of human trafficking. The New Belgium collaboration series will highlight the following 4 beers: Orval Anne-Francoise spiced strong dark; Hof Ten Dormaal golden ale; De Koninck Flowering Citrus ale; and Allagash Fat Funk original Fat Tire with De Dolle yeast.” A tasting tray of all four beers will be $8 and there will be food specials as well.
The former Green Dragon, Rogue‘s Eastside Pub in Portland, has their Green Dragon Brew Crew release today at 5pm, featuring Alpha Rocket IIPA: “Big additions of high-alpha Galaxy and Citra hops give this Imperial IPA a fantastic citrus aroma and deliciously resinous flavor. Throughout the process, great care was taken to ensure that as much aroma and hop oil made it into every glass as possible. Enjoy it while you can, an IPA this fresh and delicious won’t stick around.”
Portland’s Culmination Brewing and the new upcoming Little Beast Brewing collaborated on a witbier that is being tapped today at Culmination starting at 4pm: “Culmination brewing and Little Beast Brewing teamed up to provide you with a Belgian style Wit w/ coriander and chamomile. We will tap this keg on 2/22. Freya Wit is 4.2% abv, 8 IBUs, and highly quaffable.”
