Oregon Beer News, 02/26/2015
Here’s to the penultimate day of the (work) week—Thursday! Here’s the Oregon beer news for February 26 (also winding down the month!) As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Big congrats to Portland’s The BeerMongers for their 2000th day open in a row! That is quite a feat! “Today marks the 2000th day in a row that The BeerMongers has been open. We never imagined we would be open everyday but it has been so much fun and we do it for the people. We will have some great beers on draft, some special bottles to share and to sell and snacks too. Thanks for all the support over the past 5 years and help us get to 3000!” They have some great beers listed for the day, make sure to stop by and help them celebrate!
McMenamins Highland Pub & Brewery (Gresham) has a special beer tasting and meet the brewer today starting at 5pm, featuring Pirate’s Heaven, a Golden Ale with Rum-Infused American Oak Spirals. No particular description on the page but they did post to Facebook this: “join us for the same brew this Thursday at the Highland and our brewer will be more than happy to sling some samples and pints your way from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. These are 7.5 gallon kegs and when they’re gone they’re gone forever.” So get down there.
Cascade Brewing (Portland): Their Tart Fruit Fest continues today, during their regular hours—lots and lots of sour fruit beer! The taplist they posted yesterday looked pretty fantastic and I’m sure there will be equally good beers on today!
The Bier Stein (Eugene): From 5 to 8pm tonight, they’ve got Lagunitas in for their Couch Trippin’ photo promos: “It doesn’t get much easier: sit on a couch, take a picture, walk away with some swag. We’ll have some beer (really, it’s mostly about the beer) too!”
Belmont Station (Portland) has a tasting tonight with Portland’s own Ecliptic Brewing from 5 to 7pm: “Join brewmaster John Harris and the dynamic Erin Grey Kemplin in the bottle shop for a tasting of Ecliptic Brewing’s bottled beers. Erin will be sampling the Ecliptic Spica Pils, Orbiter IPA, Oort Imperial Stout and Phobos Single Hop Red Ale and John wll be talking about and answering questions about the beers. And of course, we will pour something tasty from Ecliptic in the biercafe to boot.”
Portland’s non-profit brewery, Ex Novo Brewing, is going to be at Saraveza for a meet the brewer and a “micro tap takeover” tonight from 6 to 9pm: “Head Brewer, Jason Barbee and key members of the Ex Novo crew will be here for pints and conversation regarding their cutting edge non-profit business model and their newest IIPA Release, “IPA, Brah”! Look for swag giveaways and awesome beers on draft” Besides the 8% IPA, Brah, there will also be The World’s Most Interesting Mexican Lager (5%), and their Gose Either Way blackberry gose collaboration brew with Gigantic Brewing.
For all you cider fans out there, Portland’s Cider Riot will be doing a tap takeover at The Civic Taproom tonight from 6 to 9pm, with 5 different ciders on tap: Pinot Noir Barrel Aged Burncider, Rabbie Burns Heather Cider , Bogman’s Cranberry Brett Cider, Never Give an Inch Oregon Blackberry Cider, and Everybody Pogo Hoppy Cider.
Oblivion Brewing (Bend): They are expanding into a tasting room on Bend’s westside Galveston Avenue (a few doors down from the 10 Barrel pub). Our local TV news station had the story the other day: “Westside Cafe & Bakery in Bend closed its doors for good in December. Since then, many have wondered what will take its place. On Tuesday, officials from the city of Bend told NewsChannel 21 that Oblivion Brewing Co. applied for a permit… if everything goes according to plan, they hope to open their doors by June 1.”
The Green Dragon (Portland): Tonight is their weekly meet the brewer event, and they’re welcoming one from the coast: “Tonight we welcome Head Brewer John Dalgren of Astoria Brewing. We’ll be tapping Ichiban IPA, Shanghai Stout, and Blackberry Wheat. Brews start at 5pm, Brewer Starts at 6pm”
