Oregon Beer News, 03/01/2016
Welcome to March! Here is the Oregon beer news for Tuesday, the first of March. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.
McMenamins Fulton Pub (Portland): Their monthly Sip & Chat beer tasting takes place today from 6 to 8pm, and is featuring Black Widow 2015: “This batch was originally brewed at the Edgefield back in September of 2015. Since then this lone keg has been resting, nearly forgotton in the darkest corner of our cellars. The flavors have mingled and mellowed to reveal a rich and rare offering. Each deep-black goblet of Black Widow is packed full of the robust notes afforded by generous amounts of black and roast malts and further spirited with ethereal wisps of caramel and licorice. Both substantial and sublime, this elixir is sure to slake the most fiendish of thirsts.” So, not a Fulton-brewed beer but might be interesting to see how the Black Widow has aged in 6 months.
Belmont Station (Portland) is welcoming The Commons Brewery today for a special firkin tapping from 5 to 7pm: “When we asked our friends at The Commons Brewery to have some fun with one of our firkins, they took our lead and added guava to their delicious Myrtle Tart Farmhouse Ale. We think it’s going to be fantastic! So join us and some of the Commons gang as we tap this tasty firkin. We also will be pouring their Pumpernickel Rye Saison!”
Cascade Brewing (Portland): Tonight’s Tap It Tuesday at 6pm is featuring Oaked Kriek 2015: “a preview of our 2015 Kriek project with an added twist. Oaked Kriek features a blend of sour Red ales aged in oak wine barrels with Bing and sour pie cherries for up to 14 months, then further aged on newly toasted French oak for an added wood presence and increased vanillin character.”
Bend Brewing Company (Bend): They have a new beer going on tap today (in time for Locals’ Night): Wind Hold NWPA. Northwest Pale Ale, what more do you need to know? I’m sure it’s quite tasty!
2 Towns Ciderhouse (Corvallis) has announced a new look to their packaging today: “This week 2 Towns Ciderhouse announces the release of boxed six-pack cans and a new look. Both the redesign and the added package format represent the constant efforts of 2 Towns to bring true craft cider back to the people—providing a convenient package that reflects the company’s commitment to creating a high-quality, accessible craft cider. The new redesigned packaging and labels will phase in through the next several months, starting with the six-pack can boxes. By Summer 2016 fans of Oregon’s most popular craft cider will see the entire line of 2 Towns products transitioned to the updated profile.” Unfortunately the sneak peek image attached to the press release was thumbnail-sized so I can’t really comment on how it all looks.
McMenamins Irish Stout has returned! “Irish Stout has returned, in preparation for everyone’s favorite holiday. St. Patricks Day is right around the corner and you have preparing to do! This delicious Nitro Stout is available for the whole month of March at nearly all of our locations, to assist you in your priming and your recovery.” Read about the beer here.
Oakshire Brewing (Eugene): Their Tuesday night release tonight “features a couple of twists on an old favorite: Frog’s Wort gets a dose of dry hops and then cask conditioned for an all new experience. Come join us for a pint at The Public House and grab a pie from OREGON WOOD FIRED PIZZA while you’re here!”
Bend’s up-and-coming Immersion Brewery is making progress, posting, “HUGE day at Immersion! Our kettles and Brew House tanks are here as well!!” — along with pictures of said tanks and system. Looking good!
