Oregon Beer News, 03/02/2017
Here is the Oregon beer news for Thursday, March 2. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Imperial Bottle Shop (Portland) is hosting both Baerlic Brewing and Base Camp Brewing for a B&B Brewing Factory night from 5 to 9pm: “The B&B Brewing Factory is mastery, and full of beers that have to be… Ok, sorry for the bad C&C Music Factory reference. We couldn’t resist. Baerlic Brewing Co. and Base Camp Brewing Company recently worked as a dynamic duo on two delicious beers for Collabofest, and we’re celebrating the collaborative effort by pouring their collabo beers, a duo of their experimental hoppy brews, and a duo of their beers from our cellar. Both Dustin from Base Camp and Jim from Baerlic will be here handing out brewery swag, so stop by, say hi, and enjoy a brew or a few!”
Klamath Basin Brewing (Klamath Falls): Today they are hosting a special “Beer Geeks Speak” education and tasting event at their brewery, featuring their Backroad Vanilla Porter on nitro: “Join Brewmaster Corey Zschoche, Thursday, March 2nd @ 6 pm as he explains the process and difference between a carbonated beer and one poured with Nitro. So come on in, drink beer, and do good because for this tasting, we’ll be donating $1 from each EX Novo pint sold to Friends of the Children.” They’ll have three Ex Novo brews on tap.
The BeerMongers is hosting a PFriem Family Brewers beer night starting at 5pm, featuring at least seven or eight great PFriem beers, including Cognac Barrel Aged Belgian Dark, Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout, a number of brett-infused beers, and more.
Don’t forget the German-themed Starkbier Fest continues today in Portland, at both Stammtisch and Prost! and runs through Sunday. “This lent tradition dates back to the middle ages, when monks would fast from Ash Wednesday through Easter Sunday. Because the monks believed that liquids not only cleansed the body but also the soul, they would make plenty of liquid instead of solid bread from their grain, and then drink it in copious quantities…the more, the holier. While our fast won’t last 46 days, we can still honor their sacrifice by consuming delicous strong biers, and celebrate lent the old fashioned way.” Food and German beer specials all week!
BridgePort Brewing (Portland) is launching two new beers, Tiny Horse Pilsner and India Pale Wheat, announced in a press release today. From the release: “The first Pilsner for BridgePort, Tiny Horse Pilsner’s look celebrates Portland’s well-known population of miniature horse figurines found around the city. IPW, the second new release, is part of BridgePort’s new Deep Cut series, a rotating brew selection, available only within the Beervana pack. Inspired by the great European pilsners from Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic, Tiny Horse Pilsner, on shelves beginning today, is BridgePort’s own spin on the classic style. Brewed with locally-sourced Pilsner malt as well as a touch of Vienna malt for a signature crisp, clean finish. In addition to the new year-round, IPW is the first in BridgePort’s rotating Deep Cut series. Not a Hefeweizen but not an IPA either, this beer starts with a base of 50% pale malt and 50% wheat.”
Uptown Market (Beaverton) is hosting a first Thursday tasting with Salem’s Santiam Brewing today from 4 to 9pm: “It’s that time again! Santiam Brewing will be joining us for the First Thursday of March! We’ll have the following 4 beers on tap as well as bottles for tasting! Abbey Porter, Guvna’s Reserve, Sangre de Cristo, and Special 9: Diabolus Tripel”
Bend’s Worthy Brewing continues with their Experimental Hop Project today at their pub, where you can order a flight of four, four-ounce samples of a pale ale made with four different experimental hops and submit feedback on which one(s) you like best.
Eugene’s Ninkasi Brewing will be at 16 Tons this evening for the release party of their Megalodom Imperial IPA: “5 or more Ninkasi beers on tap including Megalodom Imperial IPA! Meet the Ninkasi Crew 6-8pm Thursday and enjoy a few pints of Prehistoric Hoppiness!” Megalodom might as well be a triple IPA, as it comes in at 10% abv with 100 IBUs!
