Happy Monday! Here’s the news in Oregon beer for the 11th of March. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated.

This weekend in Seaside is the Pouring at the Coast Fest! The event kicks off Friday the 15th with a five-course Irish Brewers Dinner paired up with beers all from Coast breweries; the dinner starts at 5:30pm and costs $50. Then on  Saturday, the 16th, the main pouring event takes place from 4 to 9pm and will feature more than 35 brewers. “The Saturday tasting will have three entry packages. All include a souvenir glass. $10 will also include 3 tasting tokens plus glass. $20 will include 14 tokens plus glass and a group package for four at $50 will include 24 tokens plus 4 glasses. To accommodate non-beer drinkers a single station wine bar will offer at minimum a red and white wine. Water will also be available along with food prepared by our local vendors.”

And, there will be a brand-new brewery debuting at the Pouring at the Coast Fest this year (much the same way Seaside Brewing debuted last year): Boring Brewing Company! Based out of, yes, Boring, Oregon. They slipped under the radar a bit but looking at the Facebook page there’s been a flurry of activity this year. Right now it looks like there are 3 beers, a Rye IPA, a brown, and a blonde. Another Oregon brewery to watch for! I’ll be interested to check them out.

Speaking of new Oregon breweries, Ezra at the New School has the scoop about a new brewery coming to Tillamook: De Garde Brewing, which will have a strong focus on wild and barrel aged beers. “One of the most interesting new brewers comes in the form of Trevor Rogers (formerly of Pelican Brewery) and partner Linsey Hamacher’s new 7bbl brewery located outside their home in Tillamook, OR that will specialize in spontaneously fermented, wine influenced, beers made to cellar. They are taking the local approach in trying to capture the native terroir of the Oregon coast and all the bugs the ocean brings in on the breeze.” Good read, check out the full blog post for all the details.

These next several days at Belmont Station in Portland are Pliny the Younger days: if you bought a ticket for one of the three days of tapping (Monday through Wednesday) then you’re helping to benefit Habitat for Humanity and you’ll earn your one glass of Russian River’s Pliny the Younger and one glass of Pliny the Elder. Belmont Station will also be generally open to the public during this time, but if you’re looking for Pliny then you have to have a ticket.

Double Mountain Brewery (Hood River) is celebrating their 6th anniversary this Saturday the 16th! They’re throwing an all-day party featuring live music from AC/DC all girl cover band Helles Belles, and closing off the street in front of the brewery for their big tent. “On the beer front, three bars will be dispensing a total of two dozen different Double Mountain ales and lagers, many of them from the brewers’ reserve stash. We will be doing half- as well as full-pours into a souvenir glass mug this year, to enable our fans to sample a wider variety. Pizza by-the-slice (new this year) and sandwiches will also be available. $5 admission for adults includes the souvenir mug; kids are welcome with parent/guardian until 5pm.”  Big congrats to Double Mountain on six great years—it’s going to be a great party!
