Oregon Beer News, 03/13/2013
Wednesday—we’re halfway through the week! Here’s the news in Oregon beer for March 13th. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Fort George Brewing (Astoria): I wrote a bit last month about Fort George’s seasonal collaboration beer with Portland’s Tender Loving Empire record label, the aptly-named Tender Loving Empire NWPA that’s appearing in cans; a press release from the brewery offers more details: “The debut of the beer, Tender Loving Empire NWPA, is celebrated with live music videos that TLE bands filmed along the Columbia River and in the brewery itself. The Fort George website will host these videos as well as an MP3 sampler at fortgeorgebrewery.com/tenderlovingempire.” They are definitely sharp-looking cans, and I’ll be interested to try them when they make it to Bend.
And speaking of cans, GoodLife Brewing in Bend spent Monday and Tuesday of this week canning their first beer, Descender IPA, thus cementing their role as the first Central Oregon brewery to can. According to their press release, the canned Descender will only initially appear in Central Oregon and Portland (which should be within a week or two). The next beer they plan to can, Sweet As Pacific Ale, is planned for a mid-April release.
Base Camp Brewing (Portland) has a new beer coming out this Thursday (tomorrow!): “Join us this Thursday to help us celebrate the release of our Magnetic Meridian IPA, the latest installment in our Meridian Expedition. Truckloads of tropical fruity aroma, light and quaffable. Freshest of the fresh, dudes! Musical entertainment provided by the sweet dulcet tones of Jeff Donovan and his 5-Stringed Banjo of Awesome. Delicious beer provided by Base Camp. High fives provided by you + your new friends.”
Sky High Brewing (Corvallis) has a beer release party for their new Monk’s Mana Belgian Honey Tripel kicking off today at 4pm: “Come help us tap the first keg (and more) of our Belgian Honey Tripel brewed with 100% Crosby Farm Hops and Corvallis Honey! Rich, smooth, delicious. FREE signed beer posters PLUS raffle drawings for Sky High Brewing swag – growlitas, t-shirts, gift cards and logo glasses – during the Hoppy Hour, 4-6pm. Stay for awesome live music by The Brutal Bridges Band, starting at 6:30pm.”
And speaking of breweries with “Sky” in the name, Eugene’s Falling Sky Brewing is celebrating their “beer making birthday” today: “It’s our beer making birthday!!! What an amazing 101 batches it has been- thanks to you!!! To celebrate we are offering 50% off on all swag today! Coincidentally its our trusty & cheerful brewer Michael’s birthday too- happy birthday to him, thanks for all the beer!”
