Oregon Beer News, 04/01/2015
Happy April Fools’ Day! I’m sure you’re not believing anything that you read online today, right? I will strive to only post actual beer news on this post—or at least, I’ll tag any hoax news as such. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
After my April 1 admonishment above, I’m actually not even sure if this is for real: Bailey’s Taproom in Portland today is (supposedly) holding an AB/InBev night at their Upper Lip. From 4 to 10pm they will have a lineup of 10 Barrel and Elysian Brewing beers on tap, along with some Goose Island. Since the news of this came out before today (Brewpublic had it the other day) it’s probably legit… but stop by and see and don’t be surprised if not.
Belmont Station (Portland) is hosting Corvallis’ Mazama Brewing tonight for a tasting: “Swing on by the bottle shop for a tasting of several of Mazama’s beers. And, of course, we will pour something really tasty from this Corvallis, Oregon-based brewery in the biercafe as well.” It runs from 5 to 7pm.
The Green Dragon (Portland) tonight has a Green Dragon Brew Crew release featuring Zwickelday IPA: “If you came through the Green Dragon for Zwickelmania, you saw this delicious IPA being crafted from the raw ingredients: barley, wheat, water, yeast, and a generous dose of an experimental hop known only as HBC-342. Strongly fruity with hints of tropical fruit, blueberry, and a bit of citrus, this is an experimental hop that we think has a lot of great potential. ABV: 6.5%, IBU: 85”
Vertigo Brewing (Hillsboro): Tonight they’ve got a special, big beer going on tap: “No April Fool Joke on this! Today 4/1/15, our Barrel Aged Russian Imperial Stout. 10% ABV. Taproom opens at 4:00.” No joke!
Portland Brewing (Portland) has a brand-new summer seasonal coming out today: Summer S.M.A.S.H. Pale Ale. “We’re releasing a new summer brew today, S.M.A.S.H. Pale Ale. S.M.A.S.H. stands for Single Malt and Single Hop. Ours features Goldpils Vienna malt and Simcoe hops for a rich malt base with some luscious citrus hop notes.” Detail page here.
Brannon’s Pub and Brewery (Beaverton) released a new beer yesterday, Professor Aronnax Biere De Garde: “This French style farmhouse ale is brewed with wheat and honey malt which create a touch of sweetness, this balances the somewhat tart and earthy farmhouse character that has been produced by the yeast. Pacific NW hops add another layer of depth cradled by a soft yet effervescent mouthfeel. OG: 1.050 IBU: 19.7 SRM: 5.8 ABV: 6.0%”
